Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On December 24, 2007 I had the following experience at 2230 Decker Blvd, Columbia, SC 29206 which left me humiliated, intimidated and wholly angered. The person in charge and decision-maker was named Jacqueline. This incident began at about 10:45 AM and ended at 11:10 AM.

I pulled into the drive-thru at about 10:45 AM with my four kids for an early lunch. I ordered five small French fries, four double cheeseburgers and four small drinks. I pulled to the first window and paid with my debit card. I pulled to the second window and the employee gave me my drinks and asked me to pull forward. I told her I wouldn't pull forward because its a very simple order and if I pull forward it will take a much longer time to bring me my family's food. She asked again and I said no again explaining that McDonalds exists to serve burgers and fries in a quick manner and that everyone behind me is probably ordering basically the same thing.

I explained that my experience with pulling forward at McDonalds creates an extensive wait for myself, much longer than if I don't pull forward. (I haven't pulled forward since about 1991.) They should be able to produce my order in a timely enough manner since it was so simple. I never raised my voice, used profanity or acted belligerent. I simply said, no as she asked me repeatedly to pull forward.

Then she called in Jacqueline, her superior, who told me to pull forward a few times. Jacqueline then threatened to call the police. I asked what law I was breaking. Jacqueline said interfering with a business. I asked either give me my order or a cash refund and this would be over. She asked for my debit card and I refused.

I wanted cash refund because the debit would post immediately and the refund would take several days to post. I did not want to be short the money in my account. Plus, I would have to take my kids to another restaurant and post a second debit putting myself out double the money until the refund posted. At this point Jacqueline told someone to call the police. Jacqueline also told employees to carry orders to the vehicles behind me and tell them that I was refusing to pull forward.

As a result, when the two vehicles immediately behind me pulled away my family and I were subject to profanities, threats and sentiments of misgivings to myself. The driver of the first vehicle shouted f**k you, a**hole to me and shouted other things. The driver of the second vehicle said f**k off, I hope you go to jail and something about me deserving to die. Employees of this store must have told them the police were called to deal with me.

My oldest child is nine and none of my children should have been subjected to this intimidation. As other cars pulled away, people in those cars continued to stare at us. This prompted my eight year old daughter to day, Those people are really mad at you, Daddy.

Very shortly after Jacqueline instructed someone to call the police, an employee came towards the window with my order and Jacqueline refused to let them serve my order to me. At some point I watched and heard Jacqueline tell someone to get my refund. One employee said my debit card was needed and Jacqueline responded to that employee, Just get the money.

At that point, Jacqueline did not again ask me for my debit card. Shortly after Jacqueline had refused to allow my order to be served, an employee appeared with my cash refund on top of what appeared to be a refund slip. However, Jacqueline would not let anyone give me my refund and sent the money back to the register.

Prior to this, Jacqueline and the first employee had both expressed great concern for the customers in vehicles behind me and their service. If she was so concerned with customer service to the others, she would have served my food or refunded the cash to make her restaurant fully operational instead of waiting for the police. Rather, she caused me to wait for the police at the second drive-thru window. I could not leave as I had neither food or refund. This also demonstrates that she was not interested in resolving the problem, but rather in trying to get me arrested.

At about 11:00 AM, a Richland County Deputy Sheriff arrived. I stayed in my van while he talked with Jacqueline. The Deputy waved me into a parking space to which I complied. I waited further until he finished talking with Jacqueline. When finished, the Deputy asked me to step out of the car. I recounted the events described above. The Deputy said I had mind and Jacqueline's stories were the same and he wanted to find a compromise. The Deputy said that a charge of trespassing was a possibility. I said that Jacqueline never asked me to leave the property or mentioned trespassing so I didn't believe that was an issue. The Deputy did not comment. The Deputy went inside the store and told me to wait outside.

At this point, my older daughters opened the van door to tell me that my six year old son was afraid I was going to get arrested. He was crying. I had to comfort him while waiting. The Deputy appeared and asked for my debit card for a refund. I complied. A couple of minutes later, the Deputy waved me in and I was given a cash discount. I read Jacqueline's name on her badge and wrote it on the receipt. Jacqueline told me to make sure I spelled her name right as I was writing. I asked for a customer service number. Jacqueline did not provide a customer service number and instead stared at me and mumbled incoherently. The Deputy suggested I look it up on the Internet. I agreed and left.

My children still wanted McDonalds so I took them to the store at 5480 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC where I received fast and friendly service, inside, from an employee named Carolyn. The franchise owner contacted me about this incident after I submitted a formal complaint to McDonalds corporate and offered me only an apology. I contacted McD's corporate after that and they said they will contact the franchisee, again. He never contacted my a second time.

Phenix city police department The Phenix city police department always violates my civil rights countless times they always believe what the other person says at CVS on Crawford rd or local business who gives me bad customer services and tells me not to enter their store I've had it with being bullied discriminated and falsely accused.

I never had any help from the police what so ever and I have been the victim of slander and false accusations! The police put in their computer that I'm not allowed to go in the CVS on crawford rd. All because I had filed a complaint with the board of pharmacy. But CVS doesn't hold their employees accountable for how they treat their customers in the pharmacy department.

Then they promote bad pharmacists to the manager of the pharmacy who has purposely got my medicine wrong so I would have to drive all the way back to CVS to get the right dosage! I was told not to come back to the pharmacy because the board of pharmacy ruled in their favor!

But the dirty rotten rat's employees at this CVS did get their way about not wanting to fill my medicine by lying to the police that I was being unruly when I had recorded on my cell phone what the pharmacist said to me! But i blame CVS for unleashing them on us like they did allowing them to retailate.

This Jacqueline was pissed off because they had other oreders to fill. It would have saved everyone time if you complied, but no, you had to be the a-hole to hold up everyone because you needed instant gratification. How could u know what other people ordered? Why did you feel so presumptuous and feel like you were something special? Its that a-hole syndrome that you are clearly suffering.

This should never happen to somebody else like how I have been unfairly treated!.  Just look at the past mean &  cruel comments people have posted about me & them go on with their life not being punished for what they have done!.  Well that is what has become of this country jerks like these on rip-off report getting away with causing injustices to people! not being held accountable for their actions!.

Well one day they will face judgement from God & it will not be pretty for them & they will pay for the mean & unfair things they said about me all because I chose to report my bad experinces.  I will not feel sorry for them when God is giving them their judgement because they asked for it for the kind of life they chose to live & how mean they treated people in life!.  The bullies will be attacked and tormented just like how they tormented people & bullied people in life!.

#5UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fri, May 24, 2013

In my younger years I worked at McDonald's. I started when I was 14 years old and worked there through college. When I started I made minimum wage, when I left I was a shift manager (Crew Chief) making well over double the minimum wage, with benefits and tuition assistance. I worked for both franchise locations and corporate owned stores. Some stores were better than others, some had a keen sense for customer service and some had very little sense at all. The GM's, owners and often the location of the store played a big part in how the crew perceived the importance of customer service. Today, I am a part owner in an establishment, not in the food service industry; however, I learned a great deal about people and customer service while working at McDonald's. I still remember the mantra was QSC&V, meaning Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value. I did very well at McDonalds and I do very well for myself today. The people I worked with were hard working people, I worked with the mentally challenged, teenage slobs, single mothers, dads working a second job, immigrants, college students, graduate students, in fact my best friend worked with me at McDonalds in my hometown, far smarter than I was, he went to MIT and now has a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Many of my friends from McDonalds are professionals today and many of us have graduate degrees. I have had both good and bad experiences at McDonalds as a customer, but for the most part my food is delivered quickly and inexpensively. It hardly looks like the picture, but I know what I am getting into when going there, it’s not a 5 star establishment and as such my expectations are reasonable.

The reason I am skeptical of your story is that I ran into this problem often with customers. Some customers thought they were more important than everyone else in the world. I can tell you I dreaded "Parking" a car, simply because of the possible backlash of the customer. I can also tell you that in the 6 stores I worked at, lunch always started at 11 AM, I know back in the early 90's it was 10:45 and a handful of stores still go by this, but it is extremely rare. I had on many occasions a customer pull to the speaker 5, 10, or 15 minutes before lunch and want to order lunch. We would state that we were still serving breakfast, some stores would allow us to take lunch orders, but we would ALWAYS warn the customer that they should be prepared to wait. Usually lunch is ready approx. 5 minutes before 11. The fryers used for Hash browns are the same as the fryers used for French Fries and there is a change over procedure, so even if your burgers can be prepared at 10:45, the oil used for the fries must be changed, cleaned and/or heated properly(as it’s a different temperature) for French fries. Although the technicalities of why your meal may not have been ready; may not be of importance to you, it is a complicated procedure that seems at most stores to be just about the most hectic time of the day, especially when different customers are demanding orders off of two different menus. 10:30-11:15 is just about the worst time to visit any McDonald's. Customers would demand lunch then when asked to park because lunch was not ready, would then proceed to complain about having to park. Guess what?? The guy behind you probably had a simple meal and certainly his order was ready, maybe it was lunch, maybe he just had a cheeseburger, maybe it was a breakfast item, in any case his food was ready. Maybe they were serving lunch, but the fryer was still heating... there is a multitude of reasons why your order may not have been ready, but that does not give you the right to hold everyone else up, it’s like the guy with 40 things that goes to the express check out at the grocery store. Drive thru is made for simple orders and most stores want to get you out as quickly as possible. McDonalds deals with volume, labor, sales, times and management is paid based on this, if your order is not ready and you are "Parked" the timer is still going for your order, they are just able to clear the orders for the other cars, when you refuse to move everyone behind you gets backed up and the orders cannot be cleared, sometimes this is no fault of the crew, but sometimes an issue with machinery. If your order was in fact as simple as you stated and it was lunch being served I would bet that it was not that they just picked you out and said, "Hey lets be jerks and make this guy wait longer".

I can tell you that when someone refused to move from my drive-thru lane I would simply cancel their order, give them a refund in cash and say, have a nice day, I would not even ask them if that is what they want. Sometimes people were baffled. If they continued to wait I would allow them and begin serving my orders from the back window. Sometimes they thought their efforts would pay off, but it never did. If they continued to wait or started banging or what not, I would tell them they were trespassing and to leave the property, if they refused I would warn them first that I was calling the police, if they continued, I would call the police and I would often allow the dispatcher to hear the person refuse to leave. 90% of the time people would just pull away at this point, but a few stayed and a few were charged with trespassing and I even made several court appearances to testify. The restaurant is a private business, obviously you have never owned a business yourself or you would understand how unreasonable your request was. If you go into a shoe store and they are out of your size, but tell you they can order from another store and have them the next day, would you demand that you will stand in front of the cash register and not allow the store to serve any more customers until they got your shoes?? It’s absolutely asinine. I know I began to rant near the end, but this story brings back so many memories of how awful some customers were to the employees. I do not defend all employees many of them have poor customer service skills, but when a business is dealing with very tight profit margins they have a limited pool of people willing to work for them. If your suggestion would be pay more to get better employees, which would inflate the prices. If you wanted to pay more, then you should go somewhere else where they do pay more and you will also pay more for your meal.

Cop in slow McDonald's line accused of aiming gun at customer ahead of him

http://www.11alive.com/news/article/288918/40/Cop-in-slow-McDonalds-line-accused-of-aiming-gun-at-customer-ahead-of-him

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- A police officer who was waiting in the drive-thru line at a McDonald's restaurant in Forsyth County is accused of pulling a gun on the customer ahead of him because the officer was angry at having to wait for his food. The off-duty officer is Detective Sgt. Scott Biumi, 48, of the DeKalb County Police Department. Biumi is charged with felony aggravated assault on the customer.  11Alive News was not able to reach him for comment Wednesday night. "He put his hand right here," said the customer, 18 year old Ryan Mash, pointing to his upper chest and shoulder area, "then he pulled the gun and put it, pointed it at, like, my neck area."Mash is a high school senior who also works at that McDonald's, on Old Atlanta Road in south Forsyth county. It was April 9, a Tuesday night, at 10:30.Mash was not working that night. He drove two friends to the McDonald's and they were in his Ford 150 pickup truck, at the head of the line, at the window, when the man they now identify as Biumi pulled up behind them in a black Chevy Impala."And we were waiting on them to cook the food. And the cop -- I didn't know at first that he was a cop -- pulled up behind us and waited about two minutes, two to three minutes.... And he got out and started yelling, yelling at us, 'Stop holding up the drive-thru line,' this that and the other. He walked back over to his car, got back in, and I said, 'Sorry for the inconvenience, Sir.' And he goes, 'Who has the loud mouth?' And I was, like, 'I said that,' not being smart or anything. He's like, 'Well, you never know who you're messing with.' And I was just like, 'No, Sir, I don't.' He goes, 'Keep your mouth shut.' I was like, 'I'm sorry.' He's like, 'Well, you don't know who you're messing with. And there's some crazy people out there.' And that's when he pulled the gun on me, and kept on yelling at me for about thirty more seconds. And then walked off."Then the man got back into his car and drove away. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office incident report quotes Mash and other witnesses as recalling that Biumi said to them, "You don't know who you are [expletive]-ing with," and "You never know who you are [expletive]-ing with."One of Mash's friends had noticed a police badge on the man's belt as the man reached into the pickup with his gun.Mash and his friends got the tag number and description of the man's car.McDonald's got the video. The video shows a man in a business suit standing outside the driver's side of the vehicle that's at the drive-thru window, pulling a gun and leaning into the vehicle, pointing the gun at the driver.Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper traced the man's license plate to the DeKalb County Police Department, and Biumi. Then the teens who were in the pickup truck, the Sheriff said, identified Biumi from a photo lineup. The Sheriff arrested Biumi Wednesday."We believe, right now, that it was his duty weapon, and a DeKalb-County-issued vehicle that he was in," Sheriff Piper said.Piper said he does not believe that Mash and his friends did or said anything to provoke Biumi, or to make him think they might be criminal suspects endangering anyone's life. And Piper said witnesses never heard or saw Biumi identify himself as a police officer."Terribly disappointing," Sheriff Piper said. "It's a betrayal of a trust to the public. We're expected to handle ourselves correctly in high-stress situations, and it's very disappointing that an officer would snap like this. It's a break in judgement that can't be excused.""I was scared, I was very scared," Mash said. "For sure, I didn't want to die that night." He chucked for a moment, then quickly got serious again. "I didn't know what he was doing. So I stuck my hands up and said, 'I'm sorry, Sir. I don't want any problems.' And he's like, 'Okay, then. Then watch who you're talking with.' And then walked off."Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies arrested Biumi in DeKalb County Wednesday morning, and booked him in the Forsyth County jail.DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander placed Biumi on administrative leave with pay while the case is investigated.Chief Alexander said Biumi has been on the force for more than 20 years."I'm just not going to stand for any behavior that goes outside that of the scope of the law," Chief Alexander said Wednesday, quickly adding, "we have to remember these are allegations that are being investigated" and Biumi is presumed innocent.Alexander said Biumi never told his superiors about the allegations from last week.  Alexander said he learned about them only when investigators from Forsyth County contacted DeKalb about Biumi.Biumi was released from the Forsyth County jail Wednesday afternoon on a $22,000 bond."I'm always respectful with the cops, and they're always respectful back to me," Mash said. "And I look at them the same way now.... [But] I think he should have his gun revoked, and his badge. He shouldn't be serving in our community, because you never know, he could get angry at somebody for speeding, and pull a gun on him."And Mash said if he could speak directly with Biumi, he'd try again to convince him he wasn't talking back to him.  "I would tell him that I wasn't being a smart-a*s to him."

McDonald's in American Fork is not lovin' it: One of its employees robbed the place. The American Fork Police Department arrested and charged a McDonald's manager with theft last Wednesday after he failed to return over $1600 taken from the store.McDonald's officials said one of their managers, 42-year-old Andrew Goldsmith, left the American Fork store with bags containing $1,608 in cash -- and went on to spend it.Goldsmith said McDonald's allegations weren't true and that he had deposited the cash money after closing the store, as he was instructed. But according to records provided by McDonald's, none of the money had appeared in the restaurant's bank account.

AFPD responded to the call after McDonald's officials attempted to reach Goldsmith several times, and he continued to assure them the money had been deposited.Goldsmith eventually confessed to the police he took the money from the store and did not make the deposit. Goldsmith also stated the money is now gone and that he was willing to pay it back. The Salt Lake City resident was arrested, booked in Utah County jail and released on a $7,500 bail. He is due to appear in court Thursday.Court records show Goldsmith had also been arrested and charged with theft on Dec. 2 by the Orem Police Department.Daniel Crivello can be reached at [email protected], via phone at 801-477-6397 or on Twitter.

blargen flennigal npchlip.

James Columbia, South Carolina U.S.A.

McWAIT FOR YOUR MEAL POEM

Pull your car forward
Try not to squeal
Your fries are still frozen
McWait for your meal
Please don't get angry
Your burger's not done
It fell on the floor
Along with your bun
This poem is over
You got a good deal
Now pull your car forward
McWait for your meal.

End.

Are you that self absorbed? Would it have inconvenienced you that much to simply pull up and have your order brought to you? Did you consider the number of customers you inconvenienced by your asinine behavior? There is a time and place for everything, and while I can agree the managers action were a bit much , but it was your fault as to why the situation was drawn out. You set a poor example of how to handle a situation for your children. Would you rather have received an ill prepared sloppy possibly tampered with bag of trash? Word of advice for you. #1 Mcdonalds is a pile of hot garbage anyway perhaps spending your hard earned money on real food would benefit you. Secondly if you must have something from Mcnasty or any other eating establishment, it would benefit you immensely to not piss off the people that are preparing your food.

You still don't get it Charles. I'm not trying to make life difficult for anyone. I was just pointing out that when you're on McDonald's or another restaurant's property you cooperate with their procedures, which are in place for the benefit of ALL customers, not just one. Now, if I insinuated somewhere that it's ok to be rude and nasty to customers, I apologize. That is never ok and no manager should allow it or engage in similar behavior. Should this manager have called the police? I don't know.

Perhaps she was out of line, as she was by making other customers aware of what was happening. The OP is not without fault here though. He was asked to pull forward and refused. It sounds like he thinks the world revolves around him and so he thinks he's entitled to things. He should have just pulled forward whether he liked it or not, but he chose to behave like a 10 year old and try to get his own way. I agree about rude employees and am not defending them, but I do defend those good employees who encounter a customer who's a jacka**.

#25Consumer Comment

Mon, August 06, 2012

I don't blame you for not pulling up. The whole "pulling up" thing has less to do with serving people quicker and more to do with the McDonald's drive thru times. They want you to pull up so they can bump to the next order and it looks to corporate like the time was 65 seconds instead of 6 minutes that it actually took them to get your food to you.

The real issue is that the manager had no managerial skills whatsoever. There was a time when the customer was always right, but that is no more. You were asked to do something, you refused, that should have been it. She chose to escalate the problem that could have been solved as simply as.... WOW, giving you the food you ordered and paid for.

By the looks of the replys to your complaint, I have no doubt that these things will continue to happen. We all will continue to pay for lousy service and food because no one is telling these employees that this is not how you treat your customers.

Yes, Charles, the businesses and their employees aren't always right either, but that's not the point here. When you enter a store or restaurant, including the parking lot or drive thru, you are entering private property and must behave properly, i.e. pulling forward when asked, or you will be asked to leave. If you won't leave willingly then you get a police escort.

Angered By "Messed Up" McDonald's Cheeseburgers, Tennessee Duo Returns To Vandalize EateryComments()ShareIncensed about the messed up cheeseburgers they purchased at a McDonalds drive-thru window, two Tennessee men allegedly returned to the fast food joint and vandalized it, cops report. The peeved patrons were apparently set off by the paucity of onions on their cheeseburgers.According to a Murfreesboro Police Department report, Christopher Slate, 21, and Sean Mosey, 23 were collared in connection with Sundays early-morning attack on the McDonalds. Each man was charged with felony reckless endangerment and vandalism.Slate (left) and Mosey are pictured in the above mug shots. In an interview with cops, Slate said that the duo was upset with McDonalds because their cheeseburgers had been messed up. He then advised that they went home and continued to drink beer and get worked up about the cheeseburgers. The men, Slate confessed, returned to McDonalds and hurled a piece of concrete through the drive-thru window and tossed a brick through the eaterys front window. An employee standing near the drive-thru window was struck by debris and suffered several lacerations on his left arm. The restaurants manager was struck in the leg by the concrete chunk.Slate and Mosey were subsequently arrested when their getaway attempt was derailed after Mosey, running from the scene, tripped and fell. He landed in the street and was unable to get up. Mosey is also facing a public intoxication charge. The alleged cheeseburger avengers, both free on bond, are due to appear July 11 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.

When told I will not pull forward, they request it again. I then ask for a full refund. Miraculously, the food usually appears within 30 seconds. Today, for example, we ordered breakfast. We received all of our food except two plain, small coffees. After the above back and forth occurred, it was in our hands and we were merrily along our way.

So...you got cold coffee that has been microwaved instead of freash coffee from a freshly brewed pot. Bravo, you really showed them what's what!

Was it really worth it?  You could have just pulled forward as they asked and everything would have been fine.  McDonald's can run their business as they see fit.  If you don't like it, don't eat there.  Try setting an example for your children.  Sometimes you are just going to have to cooperate, even if it is inconvenient to you.

Just some advice: Don't mess with people who make your food.  It's just not a good idea.  These are 16-20 year old kids who don't give a crap if they get fired.  If I ever got in an altercation with someone who was serving me food, no way would I eat it.

To the person who responded "Whenever I'm asked to pull forward I immediately ask for a refund and my food miraculously appears": I bet you get more than just your food.  While you're driving home thinking "I really showed them", they are thinking "I wonder how that b***h likes the taste of my butt crack juice".  Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be a jackass.

Order: Lunch meals

Lunch prepared start at 11:00

McDonald hours of meal:

Early hours of opening: 5 or 6am serve breakfast

Ending hours of breakfast 11:00am

Starting hours of lunch: 11:00am

Closing hours of lunch: 11pm or 12:00am

So you will have to wait for lunch server at 11:00am and that why they want you to pull forward to wait for lunch prepared. That you have to wait 15 min. before the lunch to start cooking.

Once I have problem with McDonald at 10:50 at drive-in and look at the menu and it show hamburgers menus. I order and they told me the order are not accept until 11:00am. I told them why the lunch menu still shown at the drive-in. No answer. I then order large breakfast (three steperate order) and drove off the lot without paying or pick-up. He He.

James re:Decker Blvd. McDonalds, SC

#36General Comment

Mon, September 20, 2010

James,

As a 10 yr cashier with Wal-Mart and a 35 year teacher and administrator, I have some insight into UR McDonalds problem.

All companies have protocols for running their business effectively and although some of these procedures may cause U angst, they remain procedures that the employees must follow. If U use a debit or credit card to pay and U wish a refund, so that the business does not lose $, this refund must be put back onto the debit or credit card used for the purchase.

When asked to move forward, you should have, regardless of your past experiences. U do this because U were asked and U are not the only customer in line. Your refusal to cooperate with the staff of MD's was wrong and selfish.

If I deal with a stubborn customer at WM, who chooses to argue with just about everything, then they become a problem for the worker, mgt. and other customers. UR cooperating with the police shows that U were willing to do for the police and what U should have done with MD's people, only because U felt the officer had the authority to make U do what was asked . Conversely, U felt no respect for the MD's employees to do as they asked.

U were wrong in most respects after U ordered and it was UR behavior that upset UR kids and also set a bad example for them to follow. Kids are usually a mirror image of their parents as I witnessed in my 35 years as a teacher and administrator before working at WM.

May I suggest that when U feel that U have UR own agenda when dealing with a particular business and its workers, that U no longer deal with that business. Go find another business that is willing to deal with UR ideas of appropriate behavior.

MD's deals with sooo many people, just as WM, that an epidode such as yours is of very little consequence to that business! Expecting MD's to spend an inordinate amt. of time to please U is, probably, not going to happen! If U had been dealing with a mom and pop business rather than a big chain, U, probably, would have been asked to leave and not return!

May I respectfully suggest that U sit back and reexamine UR behavior at MD's and find a way to deal differently in the future, if U are again in such a situation. U also need to realize the effect U have on UR children when they see such a display of immature behavior by their parent(s) when dealing with others. If they are young now, your poor example will cause them problems in dealing with peers, teachers and others with whom they will ,necessarily, have to interact in the future.

OP did nothing wrong!

#39Consumer Comment

Mon, December 14, 2009

I completely agree with the OP.

My husband and I are repeatedly asked to "pull forward" at a particular McDonald's, even when there is NOBODY else in line.

Why do you think this is? Obviously, unlike so many of you selfless posters have suggested, it is not for the convenience of customers lined up behind me. I guarantee if we pulled forward, the wait time would have been at least three minutes with no other customers waiting for their orders.

The simple truth is that they are falsifying their time records for delivering food to a customer at the drive-thru window. When they ask you to pull forward, they are able to stop the clock at that time, rather than showing their pitiful (and perhaps unreasonable) times for performance reviews.

The OP did nothing wrong and should not have had the police notified. The superior should have been reprimanded for such an occurrence.

If they were, businesses would find themselves submitting to illegal or unreasonable demands. Don't believe me? Go to a 24 hour store and try to buy alcohol after the legal cut off time or go to the Toyota and tell the salesman that you'll pay $8,000 for a brand new Prius. The OP was selfish and unreasonable. If it were my business, I would have refused to serve him and given him a refund. If he would have refused to leave my drive-thru, THEN I would have called the police. I don't see a reason to waste time on people like that.

#41Consumer Comment

Tue, December 23, 2008

All I have to say is that these have been the policies for lots and lots of years for all industries. Rule # 1: Customers (which are consumers) are ALWAYS right!! Rule # 2: When in doubt see rule # 1!! Even though James may have been a little selfish not wanting to pull forward it is his right NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS! James was only wrong for being selfish enough not to pull forward and think of the other customers behind him. That does NOT constitute comments such as some idiot saying he should have gotten arrested for child abuse!!! The law enforcement should NOT have even been a factor in THIS particular situation! Customer satisfaction should be the UTMOST #1 priority in any business...PERIOD If a business had no customers then there would not be a business!! Customers should ALWAYS exercise their rights and stand up for what they believe in. Also that should be instilled in our children,to stand for what they believe in. So SHAME ON Jacqueline AND THE COMPANY SHE REPRESENTS!!!!! Mcdonalds. tsk, tsk, tsk

#48UPDATE Employee

Tue, October 21, 2008

Hi, what happened must have been frustrating for you, however, you were in the wrong. When an employee asks you to pull forward, it means that they are waiting on something for your order and they need you to pull forward so they can serve the other cars. Perhaps the person behind you only had an ice cream sundae or chicken nuggets, a salad, a snack wrap etc... Your view of Mcdonald's serving primarily burgers and fries is dated. We don't like asking people to forward because we don't like being harassed by customers who may become irate by this. By you refusing to pull forward, you were greatly interfering with the duties of the employees and the business itself. We have times that we need to meet and we get in trouble if we don't meet them. You probably caused that particular store's drive thru times to be incredibly high that day because of how long you sat at the window. I would have called the police too. You interfered with their job, and you caused a disturbance. I understand that it may not have been right for the cars behind you to start swearing at you, especially with your young children their. We have policies on swearing too, and believe me, if they were in the lobby I would have kicked them out and possibly called the police on them. The bottom line is that the manager really did not do anything wrong. They were waiting on something that they may have ran out of, and by you not pulling up, you interfered with her job, and caused the other customers to wait longer too. She had every right to call the police. You did not listen to her, so she called someone you would listen to. I know it sucks to have to wait for an order that seems so simple to make, but if you try working behind the scenes for a day I am sure you will see where she was coming from. We deal with rude, obnoxious customers swearing at us, and refusing to comply with our requests all day, and it gets very frustrating. As far as the customer service line goes. She really didn't do anything wrong. She did what she had to do in order to get her business running normally again.

I've resolved any conflict I've had (with/for eating at) McDonald's. I don't go there anymore. If I want a coffee and a muffin, I go to Tim Hortons (a Canadian chain) or some other donut based establishment where I get better quality coffee, muffins and pastries. I don't have to sit and listen to some screaming, runny nose, undisciplined kids and their overweight, loud parents. I don't have to tolerate low IQ staff who have to hunt forever for the right buttons to push, or wet-behind-the-ears 19 year old managers who couldn't find their rear ends with both hands and a road map. If I want hamburger (even a vegeburger), there are better restaurants with tastier food and quicker service. The only bad experience I had at another restaurant was corrected by the manager giving me a FREE meal and apologizing for her staff member's behaviour. Maybe such an experience is sign to find someplace better. Flush them, and move on.

...And it could have been resolved long before it was, and without having had the police called to intervene. Without question, pulling forward was a reasonable request and it should have been honored. Even if it would have meant a minute or two of extra waiting time, was it going to change your life that dramatically, and was it worth what you went through? As to the manager or supervisor, she was also in the wrong. She should have refunded the money immediately when it was requested, or handed the man his food, whichever came first, in order to diffuse the situation and bring it to a close. Calling the police was inappropriate, since there was no actual threat to any employee in evidence. And someone in this thread had it right. Far too many people are self-absorbed and selfish. Your children learn from you. What did they learn that day? Is this an example of what you truly desire to teach them? Asking you to pull forward is no different than asking you to step aside momentarily so that another customer can be served, in order to speed up the process of serving all of their waiting, hungry customers in a timely manner. James, I hope that you will never repeat this same type of behavior in the future, but I'm afraid that you do not see the wrong in what you did, that caused it to go so wrong.

What was the big deal about pulling up so they could continue their business?..sorry, but you were in the wrong Clyde! Are you so special that you could not do one simple thing..something countless others have done in the past with no problems and or qualms..we pull up when they are busy and need to fill other orders..in no way would the people behind you have gotten their food first it was merely a request so they could get the orders quicker thus speed up their filling the orders!! It's your fault the Police was called Barney..I noticed when McDonalds staff made requests you refused, yet when the Police made those same requests of you, you complied..why because in no way could you get away with bullying the Police..face it Bubba you are a bully and judging from your actions a complete moron!!

This encounter is ridiculous and you should be ASHAMED! I worked at McDonalds for 4 years and I encountered many customers who truely believed they were of a higher class of society and therefore believed they could treat the "lower rung of society" however they pleased. I feel bad and sorry for your children that they had to witness your obnoxious and out of line behavior, and I hope to God that this type of behavior does not stick with them. I feel that I have the right to say this because I remember having hamburgers literally thrown in my face because they were supposed to not have pickles. You should be teaching your children to have respect for EVERYONE-Pull your d**n car up and get over it-they were only trying to make sure you had fresh food-you should be grateful. I truely hope you don't pass these horrible personality traits to your children.

And I thought the guy who thinks Walmart is out to destroy the reputations of good Christians was a psycho. You give that guy a run for his money. Here is a helpful suggestion to avoid this type of humiliating situation in the future. If you are asked to pull forward and wait for your order try very hard to consider the fact that you are not a special snowflake whose every whim needs to be catered too and pull forward. Jesus, I only found this site a few days ago and I'm already weeping for the sad state of humanity represented by so many self absorbed entitled people. You should be ashamed for cluttering up what could be a helpful website with your petty, self centered garbage. (But hey, it's not all bad. Thanks for the funny story and I will be sure to let others know about it!)

a customer refuses to pull up, asks for a refund, and they are being harassed and threatened for this reason and called the police on? what is wrong wtih you people-- the mcdonald's employee should be fired for calling the police on a customer and refusing the customer a refund... the mcdonalds employee is the one who 'held up the line' and on top of that....was possibly going around inciting hatred towards the customer and causing people to harass the customer....this is completely wrong and this is abusive and disturbing behavior... all the "employee" had to do was give the cash refund-- why couldn't she do this.. how on earth is the person at the drive thru abusing the employee by asking for a refund because they do not want to wait or pull forward? the employee is abusing the person by calling the police on them for asking for a refund...you people need to get your heads straight....

stupid incident

this is a ridiculous situation...clearly demonstrating the ignorance, stupidity, arrogance and foolishness of the mcdonald's employees. They are so exasperatingly rude and stubborn and sick in the head, that they can't hand a customer a simple refund and let the line move on. I completely agree with and understand what it's like to 'pull forward'...pulling forward though isn't the worst thing in the world, can create a situation of chaos and waiting, when they easily can just hand someone an order. I've witnessed situations where cars were waiting at the window for a 'long' period of time... are ones that should have been told to pull forward, yet never were....this is common sense...sure the customer 'could' have pulled forward, but for their own reasons, they did not want to and under those circumstances asked for a refund...the refund should have been given with no problem...no 'anger' no issues....it was the pathetic mcdonalds employees who annoyed at the customer's refusal to do 'waht they wanted' or comply with their rules or just refuse to do that one thing, that aggravated the employee and manager so much that they had to go to extremes and cal the police on a customer-- this is just absurd...a cash refund is probabyl the easiest thing in the world to do, the car would have moved on and everything would have been fine. The MCDONALDS employee is not only in the wrong here, but corporate needs to be contacted, that they call the police on a customer rather than hand them a simple refund and handle the situation with ease the way it should have been.... i'd say the customer should have called the police on the employee for taking their money, not giving them food or a refund then threatening to call the cops on them.... i'd say bravo to the customer for standing up to that kind of stupid pitiful ignorance and wrongdoing- don't let these slimeballs get away with being the ignorant trailer trash they are and getting away with this kind of abuse....and it's true if you give your debit card, the transaction still shows up as a charge, and it's a huge hassle....

Your children learn from you!

#59Consumer Suggestion

What are you teaching your children? Your children were in the car and they are learning from you! You should be teaching them RESPECT, PATIENCE and yet you taught them nothing but how to strong arm an employee. I work out of my car and I spend more time than I would like in drive thru's, however, that does not give YOU the right to be hateful to everyone from the employee first to the customers who are directly behind you. Mostly however, I think you need to re-evaluate YOUR behavior because YOU teach your children by your behavior. It saddens me that we now need volunteers in our communtity to TEACH people like yourself how to model behavior to their children because somehow we have lost how to show our children how to become caring, honest, cooperative ADULTS not OVERBEARING toddlers in 200 pound bodies throwing an adult temper tantrum. Your child was crying, really? Is there any wonder to WHY that is? YOU as the parent ( I refuse to use the term "dad" because any person can be a sperm donor, but it takes a true MAN to teach your child how to be an adult) owe ALL your children an apology in that you threw an adult temper tantrum, just as a two year old does. It is a wonder you did not get hauled off to jail and you would have no one to blame but YOU had that occured. I am sure they did not have part of your order ready, but you know that is minisucle, what is huge is that YOU are teaching your children that as an adult it just fine to BULLY people to put it in a child's term "just because". I am amshamed and I feel sorry your children have to put up with you. You SHOULD know better! Imagine show and tell at your child's school...I can see it now , a video caught "on tape" showing "my dad bullying jacquline at McDonalds........more at 10pm". I bet your proud now, huh?

I worked for McDonalds in Spokane, WA until a couple of weeks ago. You can see my post for "McDonalds worker threatened by work release co-worker." I was threatened by a co-worker who was in jail (work release), and told manager, she did nothing. Called police, got sent home and my district manager threatened to press charges for interrupting business against my wife and I. Well, back to the subject at hand. At McD, sometimes we ask to pull forward, but only when the order is really large and is gonna take more than a couple of minutes, but it is ENTIRELY up to the consumer if they do. There are no postings that state you need to pull forward anywhere in drive-thru. I am sorry that you experienced this B.S. McDonalds overall is a schmuck business. I would recommend burger king in the future. McDonalds uses a U.H.C. or universal heating cabinet to keep the food warm, and the "fresh" burgers, or chicken, can be in this cabinet for up to hours at a time. I have worked at 3 McDonalds, in 3 states, IN, MI, & WA, and they are all the same way. Coffee is brewed and if cold at service time is microwaved. I am sorry for your experience. They were way out of line. Best of luck to you in the future.

The only thing the manager did wrong in this situations was telling the other customers that you refused to pull up. Those customers should not have yelled obscenities at you especially around your kids. But this situation could have been prevented if you had simply pulled up! What is wrong with you! They don't ask you to pull up because they want you to wait longer, they ask you to pull up because you're waiting anyway and they don't want the customer behind you to wait longer! Sorry that your food wasn't ready, but how would you feel if you had only ordered a drink and you were forced to wait behind someone with a huge order that refused to pull up! Next time save the drama and the police involvement. Just because Mcdonald's doesn't have the greatest reputation doesn't mean they're not a business that has the right to tell you what to do when you're on their property. And if you don't like it that way, then don't return to that Mcdonalds again and go to the one you like more. What you did was extremely selfish and you got yourself into it.

Being that you did come through the drive thru right after they finished serving breakfast was probably the biggest reason they asked you to pull forward. I know I have been asked to pull forward a few times to wait for my order. By waiting you know that what you ordered is going to be fresh instead of getting something that has been sitting out for awhile. And as far as the kids go, you really should have cooperated with the drive thru person. Because they will repeat what they see their parents do. Think about your kids the next time the urge to get upset with a store clerk or restaurant worker comes up. Remember little ones are always watching.

You sir, behaved like an absolute a**. I would not have been near as generous as the first two people rebutting this. There was NO reason you couldnt pull ahead other than you wanted to raise h*ll and needed a target so you picked on McDs. You showed your poor kids how not to behave......but you did show them that their daddy has a horrible sense of self entitlement.....its all about you or there's h*ll to pay. You should be ashamed of yourself for behaving like that in front of your kids and scaring them over a d**n happy meal. YOU are why people get needlessly killed in public displays such as this. THANK GOD that it didnt happen to you or the kids. Shame on you Dad!!!!

In some areas, your attitude could have gotten your kids killed or any of you injured. From your description, you not only could have been arrested, but possibly more. the problem here is all you.... In some areas, you would have been offered refund or the food itself or even both ... and the employees would have worked around u. The restaurant (per your own report here) did nothing wrong. It was nearly all you as far as being problematic... Too many people (like you) dont relize that all it takes is one or two idiots like yourself to cause a major issue for all others behind you... I would as a manager, refuse to serve you the customer (all business's have a right to refuse to serve a customer especially one who is beligerent). Btw, asking u to pull forward in most areas, is asking u to leave the drive area and is 'trespaassing... u were breaking the law at some point after it escalated. Fact is, you should have been arrested at some point. Its a good thing other customers didnt hurt you or do something stupid. Ive seen customers go ballistic against those who wouldnt pull forward. Fortunately in my case, I only do driveup at fastfoods that have more than enough room to bypass your kind of 'oops'.

I have to say I totally agree with the above posts. Asking you to pull forward is a very simple request that benefits everyone in the drive through line. However, since you chose not to cooperate with a simple request, your stupid a** had to escalate the situation way beyond what it should have been. What you,and others like you, fail to realize is that when you go onto McDonald's property, you are then on private property. A management representative can have you removed for any reason. Especially if you're being uncooperative. If I was in that manager's shoes, I would have done the same thing.

You consider your abhorrent behaviour to be perfectly fine, while pretty much being a complete a*s and abusing the girl in the drive-thru window. Yep, you and my idiot Mother-In-Law would get along famously. She has no concept of public behaviour either. You owe that girl an apology. You will not do that of course, because it would mean "manning up" and doing what's proper.

I have to agree with the above post, asking you to pull forward is for everyone's benifit. I've been called everything from a moron to a flaming f**king idiot while trying to park a car or when handing out a park, and i've never felt the need to call the cops. The manager was way out of line how ever. No customer complaint, unless they become verbally/pshyically abusive and refuse to leave the store should have the cops involved. That's aweful. It shows poor judgement on her part and a lack of training. I've had people refuse to pull forward when I ask, and that means, we leave them there and run the food out to the cars behind them. But i would never have my employees tell the other customer what was going on, that's out of the line. It makes a hostile enviroment for the customer, and while it is an inconveince for us employees, there is no law stating that you have to pull forward. However, next time, i ask you to consider not only your self but the people behind you. While it appeared to you that you had a simple order, there could have been a number of reasons your food was not ready, holding on fries, the meat wasn't ready, or perhaps there was an issue with the grill and the meat was not properlly cooked. Perhaps for what ever reason they had to go and get cheese from the cooler, or even wrap for the sandwhichs. And while your agurement about the people behind probbally ordering the same things seems vaild, maybe they didn't. We have a large menu that goes well beyond double cheeseburgers and fries. Maybe they ordered a side salad and a McChicken instead. Too often I see customers take things like this personally, as though we are doing it simply to get at them, when that's not the case at all. Sometimes we just don't have the food. Or we do have the food and we are so busy or short handed we have trouble getting the food out, which can happen. Try selling $600 dollars worth of food in half and hour with only four people in the store. To spite everyone of those four people busting a*s, there is only so much they can do, we don't wear capes to work.

Simple situation left to get out of control.

#68UPDATE Employee

Wed, March 26, 2008

I work for McDonalds in Europe, but we can safely assume for the purposes of this reply that they operate with great similarity in all their locales. It should be noted that I am affliated with an individual store rather than company management, so anything said here is nothing more than my personal opinion. After reading this report it seems to me that a trivial situation was allowed to escalate out of control. First of all, let me say: It was NOT unreasonable for the employee to ask you to pull forward. While your order was relatively straightforward, you cannot assume that automatically meant that all the food you required was ready to be handed to you. Perhaps they had no double cheeseburgers ready at the time, or the fries were cooking. You would not have been asked to park up unless your food was not ready, or would not be ready within 30 seconds of your arrival at the window. Asking you to pull forward is not an effort to inconvinience you. It is simply so that, while your food is being prepared, other customers can be served. If every drive thru customer whose food was not prepared was allowed to wait at the window, the entire system would grind to a halt, customers behind would become frustrated - you get the idea. If you were a couple of cars behind, and all you wanted was a coke, would you like having to wait for somebody who refused to move? With that said, on to the response of the store. Upon your refusal to move, the supervisor had a clear choice: Allow you to stay, or refund your order. Obviously I wasn't there and don't have enough information to say which would have been the wiser choice; but calling the police seems to be an overreaction by any standards, especially considering that your children were clearly concerned by this, and for that you deserve at the very least an apology. However, in future, I hope you will consider being more co-operative at drive thrus. Please remember that it is not in the store's interest to delay you any more than is neccessary, they are simply trying to ensure that you, and every other customer, gets as speedy a service as possible.
