Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I won't lie, I knew what I was getting into when I took a job with McLemore Advance Concepts. Event marketing is indeed common business lingo for "promotional sales", usually of the type that no self-respecting business person wants to do, but with the idea that the end game is worth it. However, it is the ethics of the company and job that I have a real problem with.

The entire company is built and thriving upon deception. You are deceived by the website and the first interview with Ryan McLemore which tell you that they do "event marketing", which is code for "standing at a D.A.R.E. table and selling cheap items at a ridiculous markup to gullible consumers," but Ryan will never tell you this until you've already been taken out on the job for your "second interview."

You are deceived during the second interview when a team leader tells you that you will make an average of $350-550 a week starting, but they don't tell you that it's ONLY if you sell roughly $1200-1600 (more when you count taxes on your check) of the cheap goods weekly to make your 35% commission equal that promised pay. Oh yeah, you also only make the full 35% commission if you're working by yourself, otherwise it's split in half with the person you're working with. At the same point in this conversation, they will also tell you that being promoted to Leader will make you $550-750 a week, but between you and me, several Leaders have told me that they haven't seen a check larger than $250. All in all, you end up working 6 days a week from 7:30am-6:30pm for what equates to about $1.00 per hour or less.

Even past all of this, the deception thrives throughout the office. You are encouraged to deceive your potential customers by informing them that proceeds go to benefit the D.A.R.E. program, when in truth, only 5% of the money spent on the items goes to D.A.R.E. while 35% pays the sales people and the other 60% goes to the company. Ryan's response to this is "5% of something is better than 100% of nothing." They also discourage talking about employees that no longer work there because it's "negging out", and Ryan's pep talks in the morning have even encouraged employees to not describe the business to their family members but to rather tell them to mind their own business. He even went so far as to tell the team that choosing graduate school over a career at M.A.C. was just plain stupid.

This company is not a scam, nor is it in any way illegal. However, unless you want to build your career in a business with absolutely no honesty or ethics, I would steer clear from them.

It's amazing to me how it's been over a year since I had my business in Austin and there are still people like you proving your lack of professional integrity. I once heard a wealthy person say, "better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are ignorant than to open it up and remove all doubt. You just gave instant credibility to your post when you said that you left my business to become a Wal Mart cashier making $9 whatever an hour

It's amazing that when you type in this company's name "Rip off report" is the first link to appear. I wish that I knew this before I worked for them...that was in 2007..before they even had a website. I was once one of the suckers who worked for this scamming company. They will hire anyone and tell you lies so they can add one more fool to their "team." They tell you crap like you'll start off making 350-500 a week that is pure bull. They never tell you that what you make is 100% COMMISSION. Not only that, but it's commission off of low price items like a 10 dollar t-shirt. The whole set-up is just plain silly I don't even have to go into it the original poster said most of it. Many weeks I went home with an $80 paycheck I kid you not. You use your own car to travel to these "events" which is another word for a table set up outside a store with the products on it. Texas heat, rain, sleet or snow you are to stand out there and lie to customers who think you are a charity. I feel sorry for whoever works there now. I'm a manager at a store that they have events at and these poor suckers asked me if they could set up outside and I laughed as they used all the stupid tricks to get poor unsuspecting customers..lol. ALSO: You work long days from 7:30 am till 7:00pm....only to bring home at the most...and I mean on a GOOOD day, 100 bucks. That's like 8.30 an HOUR people. Average u make 30-70 a day. I went and worked for Wal-Mart as a cashier after i left that stupid job and made like $9.60/hr for 8 hours...you do the math.

I received a job notification for this company. Their website is very vague and doesn't say what the job actually is. There is more emphasis on careers than anything else. I was perplexed by this and did a little research. I found your report and just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to let people know your experience.

#8Consumer Suggestion

Thu, December 20, 2007

I responded to the ads for a company called Horizon Promotions. I went to the initial interview and got called back for the second. But something seemed fishy. The would reveal very little information when asked and pressed for me to come back the very next day when I was "chosen" from the applicants. I tried to research the company and when I called back to tell them I couldn't make it the voice mail identified the company as Mclemore Advance Concepts inc. when I looked them up I found identical job listings except with a different web site and this report. So it would seem they are using a second name as well. Beware.
