I am a soon to be college grad looking for jobs in the Twin Cities area, so I looked on some of the more popular job sites and came across these companies:

Micalam Group, Inc.

Twin City Events, Inc.

IronLink International, Inc.

Davis Direct Marketing, Inc.

I applied to all of them and I received responses from all of them within one day. Of course I was skeptical from the lack of information about any of them and the overly vague job descriptions posted on Career Builder, but I scheduled an interview with Micalam Group anyway.

WOW, was that a joke! The interviewer gave his spiel about the company and its opportunities and how it was a subsidiary of a larger company (he never mentioned the parent companys name). He explained to me this would be a short interview and as it began to come to a close I asked him if he wanted to know more about me and my resume. His answer was, within the first thirty seconds I know whether or not Im going to hire someone. I guess the only qualification for this job is that you have to be breathing!

Their advertising is deceptive, but perhaps some people can make a living off selling dollar store merchandise on full commission. But cmon people is that what you really want to be doing? They seem to target recent college grads, but if you have a degree dont throw it away selling plastic toys at a gas station.

By the way, I always find it alarming if a company wants to set up a preliminary face to face interview, rather than a phone interview. Most companies wont do this, especially if they are aware you are not from the area. I think this group of companies does it only to make their claims seem more legitimate. I have to admit, the office building I interviewed in was rather nice and for a moment my skepticism was alleviated.

Basically, if something is too good to be true it probably is.

Sara, I think you need to check your facts before you start posting things about me. 1) You don't even have the correct name of my company. 2) No one in my company has ever, at any time, sold any dollar store or plastic merchandise, nor taken any money from anyone. We do not handle any product of any kind. 3) I am not affiliated with those other companies, I am my own. 4) I offer a base plus commission. 5) Most companies that are looking for talent to mentor into a management position will not consider an applicant unless they come in and interview face to face, not over the phone. 6) No add can ever fully explain what a position entails, thus the reason we do face to face preliminary interviews, so that we can explain and answer questions. 7) Yes you do have to be able to breath to be offered a position, however you also have to pass a seven year criminal background history check, be able to converse confidently with owners of companies, and professionally represent one of our fortune 500 clients. As for the comment that I said, "within the first thirty seconds I know whether or not Im going to hire someone" That is not true. I know within the first thirty seconds if I am not going to bring someone back for a second interview, as there is a three interview process. As with any company, I am looking for the best talent I can find that wants an opportunity to be an integral part of growing a company. When I go into the lobby to introduce myself and do not find the interviewee professionally dressed, (whom has been told several times before the interview it is required), when I ask "how is your day going" and the person starts complaining, and when a person leans on my desk during the interview, I know that the person is not the proper fit for my company. As for my Parent company, here are some facts; CYDCOR ranked No.1 in the categories of client trust vendor preference, and operational value-added. CYDCOR was ranked No.2 overall in its end-to-end sales outsourcing vendor assessment The company missed a tie for the No. 1 position by .01, according to the survey. Check it out in 'The Black Book of Outsourcing', which conducts an annual ranking of outsourcing providers. I guess that is why Fortune 500 companies like AT&T, Quill Office Supplies, IMS, and Verizon work with us. I want to wish you good luck with your search in finding something that fits you. TL
