MVD Express Vechicle Registration Las Cruces, New Mexico
Whoa! Stay away from this business if you're hoping to "Get In, Get Done, and Get Going" as their ad implies. Needing to register your vehicle? Consider instead, going to a state DMV office.
Called in advance to ensure I had all the items required to register my vehicle there. Recorded the call, which is Kosher in NM. Specifically informed their rep I need an accurate and complete list, as we'd be driving in from a long distance (near El Paso) to register a vehicle. Got to location with EXACT set of items I was told was required, only to be turned away because there were two items that are required that I was not informed of: 1. The actual vehicle itself (my assistant drove her car with the items she was told she needed); and 2.) a "certified" copy of the dealer's bill of sale. All I was given by the dealership (a new car dealership) was a pink and canary copy of the bill of sale, which they (and apparently everyone else) deems to be same as "original". When I called the dealership they had never even HEARD of a "certified" copy of a bill of sale--after having sold hundreds of thousands of vehicles all over the nation.
The RUB: If you use a place like DVM Express, it seems you will be held to a HIGHER standard than if you go straight to the Motor Vehicle Department.
This would be the fifth vehicle I've registered in NM and never once was I required to have the vehicle with me for an onsite "VIN Inspection" (as their rep claimed she needed).
The BOTTOM LINE: By far the easiest, fastest, and LEAST RESTRICTIVE way to register a motor vehicle is to go to the STATE DMV--not a for-profit shop. Even if you have to wait in a short line, it's MUCH QUICKER than having to go back and forth with rank amateurs trying to convince you why they require a "certified copy" of a bill of sale when the state doesn't. Or why your vehicle must be present, when the state doesn't. You'll not only save time, but money, too. On top of the double-talk and the state fee, DVM Express charges an add-on separate registration fee (their fee). Of course, they're entitled to a fee if they provide a service. You be the judge if you think this is a valuable service or not.
