I entered my number in a Do-Not-Call registry some time ago to stop Telemarketers calling. On 8/28/05, I attempted to find where a number was coming from, since it was labelled unknown on the ID, and was linked to a do not call site. Ironically, the first number listed was in reference to NCO Financial, a company I've recently had a complaint against. A fraud warning alert was placed beside the name.

On July 15, 2005, I received my first call from this corrupt company in reference to, you guessed it, a Chase Providian account they claimed I owed. I told the guy I didn't know what he was talking about. He continued talking and arguing and I hung up. On July 24, 2005, I was sent one of there infamous collection letters at which time the relentless daily phone calls began. I presented this letter to my attorney and he forwarded a dispute letter with cease and desist clause to them. The phone harrassment continued until 8/23/05 advising me to call a Brenda Walker with NCO. I got tired of the constant harrassment and messages and returned the call. The lady advised her name was Grace Deville. I advised her I would initiated legal action if the harrassment continued. She claimed the information had not been updated and they had not received a letter from my attorney.

It appears this claim may be a result of a Providian account that my spouse had discharged in a bankruptcy in 2001. We were seperated at the time. They claimed that the account had my name on it also, although they initially asked for my spouse on the first call. I may have accidently given them further info. to harrass when this first call was made when I took the phone call. My attorney advised that it was illegal for them to attempt to collect on this debt regardless since it had been discharged. Additionally, the default was beyond the three year statute of limitations.

I haven't received any more calls, (it's been less than a week though) since my return call to Grace Deville, but now worry they may attempt to place this fraudulent claim against my credit report. It seems legal action should be taken against this company.
