Rhonda, This is easy to fix when done properly. First, NEVER call or speak to any debt collector on the phone. It will get you nowhere. They are not customer service. They do not care about fixing your problem. They are programmed only to collect, by any means possible. Placing a negative on your credit is a way for them to get you to contact them. Don't fall for this. Under federal law [FCRA] you are entitled to see what proof was given to validate a disputed debt. You are entitled to see everything involved in the verification process. However, you have to specifically request it. Only communicate in writing and by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. this is very important. Here is the contact info for NCO: NCO Financial Systems, Inc. *Also goes by the name of NCO Portfolio Management) 507 Prudential Rd Horsham, PA 19044-2308 Phone: (215) 441-3000 Fax: (215) 441-3923 Web Address: www.ncogroup.com and 150 Crosspoint Pkwy CrossPoint Business Park Getzville, NY 14068-1602 Phone: (716) 404-2100 Fax: (716) 404-2120 Keep in mind that NCO is not a creditor, they are a debt collector and a junk debt buyer. And, the FTC does not do individual enforcement, your complaint just goes into a database for future enforcement. the only response you will get is an automated form letter with generic information. By the means described above, send a DEBT VALIDATION request where you clearly dispute the debt, and demand to see whatever you allegedly signed to create the debt, as well as a full account history and itemization of charges. If you do this as I specified, chances are good you will never hear from them again, and the item will be removed from your credit.
