Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was looking at a 1993 Grand Am GT they had for sale on their lot, which is right next to the post office is where I receive my mail. I went in to look at the car & decided to test drive it.

It's white, with tinted windows; looked pretty good. I left that day & continued to car shop. The salesman, an older guy named Ed called me repeatedly trying to work out a deal so I would buy the car.

Per Ed's request, I went back into the shop & they slashed the price so I would buy the car. I signed all paperwork & ended up buying the car.

What a nightmare! Within 3 weeks of owning the car, it needed its first major repair. I needed a new radiator & hoses, etc. The mechanic was concerned with massive amounts of sealant that were found in the cooling system. It was his belief that the head gasket or gaskets were blown & the sealant was added to mask the problem until after the sale.

Not long after that my transmission blew. Upon a different mechanic's advice, I called New Concept back. The owner, Joe Vela's, son answered & I explained all the problems. His response was, "If it's not under warranty, then it's not our problem".

I tried to explain that I understood his end, but to build a good business you should honor your product. I was told to "have a nice life" & got hung up on.

I feel that New Concept Auto Exchange knowingly sold me an unsafe car in poor condition. They saw a young girl wanting a car & threw the bait. I've had the car less than a year & spent more on repairs than I did on the car. I'm still paying the repair bills in monthly installments for a car that barely runs.

New Concept has recently remodeled & expanded. I'm convinced that they got that money by ripping off more naive people like myself. There should be a lemon dealer law set up in our state. I don't know how Joe & his employees sleep at night.

A balanced view and education for the poster

I have known 5 people, 2 in my own immediate family, who have bought cars from this business. My sister and a dear friend both got leather interior and top of the line options for the blue book value of a base model of the same car. In my sister's case just shy of $2000 less then the car's value. She got the top of the line warranty and they quickly fixed the one thing that has gone wrong with her car. She is the only of the 5 that has had a problem. I am in the process of buying a car from them. In addition, Pennsylvania does have a lemon law and the poster would have done well to research the topic before posting. My suggestion, drive North on I-95 and there will be 2 billboards for lemon law lawyers and hotlines before the exit for Columbus Blvd. In addition, most used car dealer will let you test drive the car and stop by your own mechanic for a once over. If they do not offer you can request it, if they refuse then you refuse to buy and walk away. To buy a 13 year old car without having your own mechanic look under the hood is at best foolish. Finally, I understand that the turn over for cars at this lot is very quick, I wonder if the poster ever concidered that the seller could have poured the sealent into the car and it was overlooked by New Concept. Basically, I feel that this post was poorly researched and jumps to many conclusions that are not fair to the company that has treated many very very well.
