New York International Shipping (MC 674755) packed and shipped it overseas. It started as three pieces of fine furniture. This company sent me pulverized wood. They also shipped fragile dish and glass wares which I PERSONALLY PACKED myself. These items arrived in Hong Kong with not a chip. NY International Shipping wrapped the furniture - in paperboard. What competent professional wraps furniture in paper?  My packing worked, their packing failed.

I received insurance for repairing the furniture. I'm not complaining about that.  I am complaining about the awful packing service. I hired NYIS for a service that they failed to do - to properly prepare my belongings for shipment. I asked the director of NYIS to refund the thousands of dollars that they charged me for this lack of service. He refused to even discuss it.

Photos of the resulting delivery can be found on https://www.pinterest.com/hwanghwali/ny-international-shipping-and-ny-moving-group-relo/.

This business asserts that their movers have final say in how they pack the furniture. Their customers have no choice but to accept the packing method. Deposit was already paid. And the director-owner of this family business, implied that they did a great job and, that the ocean is a dangerous place with sea monsters and mermaids and all, and things happen. That is why there is insurance, he said. To protect against bad packing service, I say.

If you, the customer buy the idea that wrapping large items of furniture in corrugated paper (instead of crating them) and stuffing a couple pillows under the legs "for protection" is professional then, by all means choose this company. They are cheaper than some others. If you want to rest easy that your cherished belongings will make it to their destination in one piece, do not use this company. Ever. Ever.

Also, there was barely any customer service followup, the company didn't even apologize; just offered a soulless, cable TV statement of regret, incorrect followup information, and a whole lot of verbiage about how important it is to buy insurance to protect against waves and incompetence.

I attempted to settle with this company through Better Business Bureau (BBB) services and the Maritime Commission. After one year, the company partner with whom we communicated repeated the same line about the fact that their company takes no responsibility.

Finally, do not judge this company by their Better Business Bureau "A" rating. That rating only means that they file the proper forms and communicate with the customer. It doesn't mean that they resolve the customers' complaints; and there are several recent complaints listed on their BBB page. In fact, the BBB tried to attempt mediation in my case. The NYIS director initially offered a conference call. Right after I accepted, he retracted the offer. Guess he thought I wouldn't accept the offer.

Note that NYIS also goes under the names NY Moving Group and New York Moving & Storage (MC 850023).
