I need to warn people in the Plateau area to avoid going to PMC whether or not you have insurance. Some time back a friend had gone to PMC with a fever, severe pain and a large necrotic lesion in his leg. We suspected MRSA and took him to the local ER due to it being late in the evening.
He went through triage and then sent in to wait for the doctor on duty. This doctor (can't spell his name... let alone pronounce it) came in looked at the lesion and said 'I can't see you unless you pay me up front since you do not have insurance'. We challenged this since it was the closest medical center open at this time of the evening and it did appear to be an emergency. Long story short... the boy was sent home without being seen, no pathology taken and without a prescription of any kind. Doctor stated it wasn't 'life threatening' therefore he wasn't obliged to treat him. Not only was he turned away, he was later billed for BOTH the triage nurse and the doctor services that were never rendered.
The next day we took him to NRHA (a local rural health clinic) where the doctor informed him that this was in fact MRSA and could have been potentially life threatening since it had gone into the muscle of the leg - a pathology WAS taken at this time and a prescription given. PLUS he received follow-up.
If you're ever in need of an Emergency room in this area I recommend (((competitors' names redacted))). While not the best or the closest, they are better than PMC.
