Rented car from Hertz in Orlando Florida on 12/3/10.

Hertz never mentioned anything to me about their PlatePass service. There was no visible transponder or other PlatePass device in the car. There was no information about PlatePass in the car.

I stopped and paid all tolls in cash, never drove through an EZ-PASS or similar lane.

On 12/16 there was a charge from www.platepass.com on the credit card I had given Hertz for one of the tolls ($0.75) with an added $10.00 administrative fee.

Fortuitously I had asked for a receipt from the particular toll operator.

I called PlatePass for an explanation and to credit these charges. I was asked to fax the receipt I have and was told they would investigate for up to 2 weeks before they issued the credit. They offered no explanation and suggested I went through an EZ-PASS lane without my knowledge... I consider this insulting and am left wondering (a) why Hertz authorized the service and use of my credit card by a third party without me being informed, (b) how an obviously flawed vehicle identification/toll tracking system is allowed to be in operation, (c) what recourse I would have if I had not asked for a paper receipt, (d) how an administrative fee of 1,333% is anything but a RIPOFF.
