You probably have plenty of time to contact an attorney. I did, and the attorney advised me to get an answering machine to record any messages left by PRA or any other debt collector. If you can catch them doing something wrong, the attorney will sue them! I finally received a zero balance letter from these jerks after they tried to convince me that I owed the debt. I actually owed the original lender, but PRA couldn't prove they owned the debt. If you look for a consumer advocate or an attorney that specializes in representing those who are being harassed by debt collectors, you will likely not have to pay one dollar. I never had to pay anything. Keep all communications you receive from this company, and contact an attorney.

Check the Michigan Statute of Limitations on debt collection, I think 9 years is too late to collect. Also, send a certified letter to that criminal Mary Jane Elliott and ask for Debt Verification: demand copies of the original signed contract for this debt supposedly bearing your signature; demand proof that she has either bought the debt from the original creditor or that the original creditor has given her their authorization to collect on this debt. Keep copies of everything you send her. Always refer to the debt as the "alleged debt", never admit or imply admission to anything, in fact in your letter at the end add, "This letter is in no way meant to be an admission of owing any money." If she serves you with a lawsuit complaint from the court, do not be intimidated, that's what she relies on. Stand up to this b***h, that's what I'm doing now, it takes a lot of time to investigate all this online but there are technicalities you can get this thrown out on, especially the Statute of Limitations thing. She will rely on your not knowing about this, the court is not obliged to make you aware of this law, and she can state that you never contested the lawsuit based on the Statutes law. Search the Internet and find every legal loophole you can to tie this b***h up. Don't hide from being served or accepting mail, face that b***h head on, and ANSWER PROMPTLY sending copies of your correspondence to the court and that b***h. She buys old debts and tries to profit personally from them, that is her line of business. She is a shady b****h, operating just inside the law but has occasionally stepped outside of it and been caught, reported and successfully sued by consumers. I wonder if she is Kwame's sister...
