This company unfairly pays its employees. PTI transports railroad workers as a taxi service. I, along with all of my co-workers work 12 hour shifts and our average pay averages out to $1.50-$3.00 an hour. We are expected to be on call for those 12 hours and we only get paid when our dispatch calls us with a crew to transport. We get paid for the mileage we drive, along with compensation for having to wait for the railroad workers to board the vehicle. We DO NOT get paid while we are in the company van waiting for the dispatcher to tell us we have rail crew. I have worked 12 hour shifts and not made a single penny. West Virginia PTI workers are guaranteed a flat rate of $350 per week regardless, plus they get the mileage and waiting compensation. I'm not sure if there are laws against this type of pay and hours worked without pay, but if anyone is considering a career with PTI, don't waste your time.

This report is correct but it only scrapes the surface of the issues with this company. Not only do they do the above but they also do not require there drivers to hold current med cards. They claim when hired that they follow the hours of service rules but they do not make you keep logs and they work you over the hos rules. I have worked for over 26 hrs at a time in the past. The way that works is as follows. i mark up at 1800hrs and my "shift" is suposed to be untill 0600hrs the next morning. At the point i mark up i have to be fully rested and redy to go. Therefore i have just got out of bed. Now if i get a run at 1800hrs it works great. but lets say i don't get a run untill 0400hrs going from Glasgow, MT to Minot, ND. (happens more often then not) the run leaves at 0600hrs. I do not get paid from 1800hrs to 0600hrs when the run is schedueled to leave. So i show up arpoxamitly 20 min early to do pre-trip inspections on the van (required by DOT regulations) that i don't get paid for, Fuel if i need to (wich i don't get paid for) and clean the van out because the last guy didn't (because we don't get paid for it). then i log into the trimble and activate the trip. Starting at 0600 i am suposed to be on the road from Glasgow, Mt to Minot, ND. The crew hasn't even loaded there grip into the van yet so i go inside to check on them. They are waiting on one more person and havent even recieved there wheel yet. So i go and wait. At 0800 they finally load there grip but insted of 3 people i have 6 because they stacked trips. So now i have a expadition that seats 7 including the driver and i have 6 grown men and all there grips and twor freddies and 4 cases of water all crammed into a van designed to hold mom, dad, and mabe 4 kids. So we leave at 0815hrs. I have now been up for 14.5 hrs. Minot is 5 hours away from glasgow if you make no stops and hit no traffic. but we do have traffic because of rush hour and we do have stops because they crews need to stop at Wolf Point, Culbertson, Williston, Trenten, then to minot. so if each stop takes 10 minutes i now have 5 hours and 40 minutes on my books when i get to Minot for a total of like 20 awake. So i unload and turn around and drive back (because they won't get us a room) so i drive straight through and do it in 5.5 hours that puts me at 25.5 hours when i roll into glasgow. my work is still not over because i need to fuel (5 min), wash windows(4 or 5 min), clean the van out (5-10 min), do my post trip (30 min), and log out of the trimble wich all adds up. so now i m up for going on 26.5 hours or so. i log off and go on rest when i park the van. (we get 8 hours not the 10 the dot requires) and drive 20 minutes home. shower, eat, smoka a cigorette to relax from the day and go to bed. by this point i only have 7 hours to sleep. so i get 5 hours into my sleep and get a phone call from dispatch asking me to take a run because my rest time hasn't completely populated down the system yet. or there short staffed or whatever. (according to DOT rest periods are suposed to be ten hours uninterupted rest) so now i get to go back to sleep for 1 hour and 45 minutes before i can be called again. so right at the 8 hours i get a phone call (remember 1800hrs is suposed to be my start time) it is now what? 0300hrs (if i did my math right)  so i am how late for my shift? so now at the end of the week i get my check for the trip and am paid for 540 miles at $0.22/ mile is what? like $120 aproxamitly? plus i get $9.79/hr for the 2.25 hrs i waited at the depot and for the 40 minutes for my stops so i get aprox $30 for wait time bringing my total to $150 for 27 hours of work. so i made $5.55/hr wich is way below minimum wage on that trip.   not to mention i didn't get any overtime for being over double my hours of service.

This doesnt even begin to touch the other issues with maintnence, union busting (yes were suposed to be part of the UPSEU union out of new york) and the false reports filed on you if you join the union. or the inproper drug tests that are not DOT compliant and other stoff too numerous to mention.

Dont work for this company it is not worth it.
