We have had Progressive Insurance for the past 2yrs. My husband purchased a motorcycle in October of 2005. We purchased insurance in the month of November. They had taken $65.00 a month out of my account since November of that year. In March of 2006 my husband was pulled over by the police for a temparory license plate that he had on his bike as being expired. NOTHING was said about not having insurance..only his plate being expired. He went down to MVD to get a license plate. MVD told him that he NEVER had insurance since 3/13/06! I called Progressive today and they told me that they would gladly put the 5 months of insurance payments we have been paying towards my husbands new policy BUT since he did not have a motorcycle policy in effect they cannot say that he had insurance. So I asked the lady why they had taken my money if they were not going to put it towards his vehicle. She stated that the VIN was insured but it would not be considered vehicle insurance since it was not a motorcycle policy. So now they are saying that I have to have an sr22 for 3 years when I should not even have one SINCE my vehicle was insured! PROGRESSIVE IS A MAJOR RIPOFF.

I have a few questions: You bought the bike in October and didn't try to insure it until Novemeber? That lapse alone could cause trouble in most states, unless it's a dirt bike for offroad use. When you purchased the bike, did you specifically buy a motorcycle policy for it? With Prog, as most companies, Mc's and autos are two totally differant policy types. Did you ever get an MC ID card for the bike? How much was your auto payments for insurance? did it increase after you purchased the bike? What was make of the bike? I ask that because i've had people ask me to put Honda's on auto polices, i run the vin and it comes out a motorcycle. SR22's on motorcycle polices can be brutal. Differant than auto's, which usually have a flat-fee of 20-25 dollars every six months, motorcycles can range from 5 to 100% of your policy premium.
