What is your address? Sounds like I can sell you a dirty sock if my pitch is right. Joann, you not only wrote a check for something you cant afford but you gave these guys a cell phone and they promised to come back later and pay. You should make sure that cell phone isn't connected to your account billing in anyway. Just in case, call the non emergency police number and file a report about the phone. The phones serial number is tied to you and it can come back to haunt you.

"can something be done about this ?" Yes. Stop writing checks that you can't afford to strangers who knock on your door. Not only do you get ripped off, but now they have your check info which can be used to create bogus electronic checks. Writing a check is a lot more dangerous than it used to be. You have to be careful who you give them to.
