If you haven't already done so, check out the state laws for Missouri (http://ago.mo.gov/publications/landlordtenant.pdf) regarding landlords and tenants. They have 30 days from lease termination to provide you with an itemized list of damages and an explanation of why they're keeping the deposit.
You can easily take them to small claims court for failing to do this. But you have to sue the right person. Check with your County Clerk for advice on how to do that. It's pretty simple and you should be able to get the money back.
