I came across Redfin real estate website and saw a local agent Marcus Fleming. I called him and he gave me some advise about buying a house. He suggest I get prequalify first to see how much I can buy. I was qualified for $260k and he sound very excited and want a copy of the prequal letter and ready to show me some houses. I met him at starbucks and he is a smooth talker, like a car salesman. He told me he found some houses for me to see tomorrow morning and told me to meet at the properties. I went to the first property with excitement, 20 mins later Marcus is still not here. I called him and he said "Oh, I forgot my associate will be showing you the properties". 30 minutes later his associate Kevin Wachel show up and said "Sorry about that, Marcus told me last minute". I am at my boiling point right now, we approach the property and Kevin started to sighs, I asked what's the matter? Kevin said "I forgot my MLS lockbox key" . Basically mean we cannot enter the house. Kevin said "I have to go back home and get the lockbox key". I asked him how long would that take, he said about 40 mins. He knows I am clearly upset. I told Kevin I am going to the car wash and give me a call when he come back. One hour later, Kevin never call back, I left 2 messages for Kevin and Marcus, no call back what so ever. I am furious and went home and told my wife that Redfin stood me up. Later that day I receive a called from Raegan Kraft, she sound very nice on the phone as well and apologize about the experiences and swore it never happen again. Next morning Marcus called and asked how was the showing goes, he clearly have no idea what happened yesterday or check his voice mail. I told him about the whole thing and he started apologizing and blame it all on Kevin. I calmed down and he promise to lower his commission to make it work. I told him I found a house about $240k and I would like to look at it. Marcus started stuttering and told me "We don't work with property less than $250k". I asked him "excuse me?" Marcus "We don't work with low income properties". And he hung up on me, I was shocked what just happened. I guess Redfin only work with high income people. Redfin is a company in Seattle and they have no idea about the Arizona market and I've learn my lessons reading all the good reviews on Redfin's website. They probably wrote all those reviews themselves. Redfin is a joke and customer service is garbage.

Let's dispell some inconsitencies in this customers review:

Redfin sends a confirmation email to both the Client and the Associate Agent (in this case Kevin) once a "tour" has been booked, the customer is copied with the Associate Agent's name, number and email (in this case Kevin).

The agent "Marcus", would never reduce a commission, why? becasue he does not get a commission.  Redfin Agents are paid a small salary and subsequently a small bonus (smaller than the rebate/refund the customer gets after closing) that is based on the customer's statisfaction after they close on a home for said client.

So where does the commission go?  To the Corporation in Seattle not to the local brokerage or the agent.

Redfin in Arizona. Redfin's HQ maybe located in Seattle, but the Agent's they hire are local Realtors.  Most have at least 10 deals under their belts within the last year prior to being hired as an employee.  It's a similiar concept with most brokerages, for example Century 21's HQ is in NJ (I believe) and they are International.  The agents that affiliate  with Centrury 21 are local agents.
