I am one of those people that will only break down and see a dentist when I am in real pain. I came to this office and told them about my pain. Their first step was to sell me their dental plan. Once I did that, I had X-rays and an exam. I asked about what had to be done to get me out of pain. What I got was a list of what the dentist thought I needed done. I wish I had the money to pay for all that work, but for the time being, I just wanted the pain to stop. After hearing the cost, I asked for the cleaning I paid for and was told that I would have to wait to see the periodontist, who was on vacation for 1 month. I wish I knew this before paying $50.00 for the dental plan.

Although Dr. Fields made fun of me for not taking better care of my teeth, it was his office staff that really gave me a hard time. After some research, I found that the root canal he suggested, was not the only option. There are alternative medicine dentists that have success in saving the tooth and its roots. When I found a new dentist, I called Dr. Fields office to ask for my X-rays. Sylvia told me that she would forward the X-rays to the new dentist at no cost. I told her that I would have to get the address and call her back. When I called back, the office manager, Mierda, told me that they would not send the X-rays and that I would have to come in and pay $25.00. I explained to her that I was told it would be done at no charge, but she got more unpleasant as the call went on. Finally after an argument, she agreed to send them.

2 weeks later, my new dentist had not received the X-rays, so I called my brother who referred me to Dr. Fields. He called me back and said that they would have the X-rays ready at 3pm that day and there would be no charge. I arrived at 3:15 and they had already changed their mind about the $25.00. I was in pain, so I had no choice but to pay them. The office manager, Mierda, took her sweet time walking to the back room to get my X-rays and stopped to laugh with the receptionist a couple of times. She came back and handed me an envelope and said "Here you go. Bye Bye!" and then went back to laughing with the other office staff.

I opened the envelope and noticed that there were no X-rays in it. When I asked where they were, she repeated the slow walking routine and hesitantly brought them to me. The visit took 15 minutes even though I told them I was in pain.

She didn't even bother to take the X-rays out of their holder when she made the copy and there was writing across the images. The quality of the X-rays reflects the poor quality service I received from that office.

Their website claims that they treat all patients like friends. They had a good laugh at my expense. There are way too many good dental offices to subject yourself to Dr. Fields dental group's poorly trained, unprofessional ,and insensitive staff.

I had the total and complete opposite experience of the other reviewer

I had not been to a dentist for years, because I was traumatized by a horrible Dental experience. Needless to say my teeth needed a lot of work. From the moment I walked in, everyone was so friendly and positive, which really helped put me at ease. To make a long review short, Basically my Crowns and bridges look completely natural and the color shade matches my other teeth perfectly. GUM DISEASE GONE. Virtually painless experience, And I feel really great. This is my review and I do it because I so appreciate how Dr Fields and his wonderful team helped me get my health back. Thank you all so very much. You made a very big difference in my life.

I have been going to Dr Fields for 15 years and it has been always a wonderful stress free experience. I have had several crowns and a bridge in front after i broke one of my front teeth completely off, and they are all fine after many years. Dr Fields and his staff have always treated me with kindness and respect and have provided me and my family with quality dental care at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend Dr Fields to anyone seeking the best dental care.

My husband and I and my sons have seen Dr. Fields DDS, practicing in Van Nuys, for the last 25 years! I was saddened to see the review of his professionality and his office staff that was so unrealistically negative. Dr. Fields has always been a caring and kind man and always the consummate professional. He always gave my husband the bad news first and then offered other more inexpensive ways to treat his dental problems...he never just offered one treatment plan. I think i have heard him talk very seriously to my son regarding his neglecting his oral health, and i glad he did. It is the most important thing in your body which is a gateway to other more serious diseases as heart, stroke, osteoporosis and other health problems. If you are in need of perio treatment, you will have this problem for the rest of your life. Dr. Fields has one periodontist working for him and if she was not available, you just can not call in another one to treat you. If you are in pain because of infectiion, Dr. Fields prescribes antibiotics and Motrin until the infection is gone before doing a root canal or anything to try to save the tooth. Usually dentists that practice general dentistry are not that familar with dentists that work from a holistic point of view so he would not have even suggested you see one. I f you want to be treated with this appproach, then by all means say thank you and be done. Your consultatiion with most dentists and docs is free of charge. If you signed up for an in office plan, that is because you had no insurance and he is kind enough to discount the dentistry he does for his patients so it at least makes it affordable! With the plan, which my son has, your Normally with the plan that my son has from Dr, Fields, your office visit is $5 and your oral exam and full mouth xrays are no charge and your teeth cleaning is $50. Normal rates with no insurance would be $215 for this initial work and you paid $55! Seems like a good deal to me for dental work for people that do not have dental insurance! A root canal at his office is done by an endodontist and runs around $1300....that is low for Van Nuys...going to Encino or Sherman Oaks and you will be paying from $2000 up to $3,000 for the same thing....He has practiced 38 years in the same place in Van Nuys and if he was what you say he is, i am afraid he would have been long gone. I understand that there have been members of the staff that have been short with people...I am so sorry you had problems. But to complain about what you had to pay for a plan to get your teeth cleaned and was sorry for that , the plan is good for one year on most all of your dentistry, he could have just been on his "Money Train" and made you pay the full amount, but he did not. I hope you have a good experience with your alternative dentist. I use acupuncture, mediatation and tai chi...i assume alternative dentistry is just as great as these other professions are. As to the office staff, people have been let go and changes have been made during the 25 years i have been going there. But for sure you would have never walked out in pain....you might not have walked out with pain pills, but he would have definitely given you antibiotics for infection and Motrin for pain until it had subsided. Please take some responsibility for yourself here and not blame eveyone for what happened. Just my 3 cents as a very old patient.
