Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We purchased a living room sectional on 4/27/08 from the La-Z-Boy store located at 12100 Jefferson Farm Place in Waldorf, MD. My wife and I had been looking for new furniture for some time, so this was an important event for us.. Well, the excitement didn't take long to turn into bitter disappointment.

This was a special deal with no finance charges for 36 months thru GE Money Bank. After we paid the required deposit of 30%, the amount financed was $1752.14.

On 5/1/08, La-Z-Boy made the initial charge of $236.40 on our account. On 5/22/08, La-Z-Boy charged our account $1,515.74. This -should- have been the end of the charges to the account, since the total charges were now equal to the amount financed. Then, on 5/23/08, La-Z-Boy AGAIN charged our account $1,515.74, making the total charges $3267.88. Some special -- $3267.88 for furniture that was supposed to cost around $2500!!

When I saw the duplicate charges on 5/26/08, I immediately called the La-Z-Boy store where I made the purchase and informed them of the error. I was told that they would contact their main office in Odenton, MD. I also called GE Money Bank and informed their customer service department of the duplicate charge. They said that all they could do was to send me a dispute letter. You would think that they could contact La-Z-Boy and settle the error without further complications. Apparently not.

On 5/27/08, I received a call from the local La-Z-Boy store, stating that they had contacted their main office and were told that there was no duplicate charge!! I politely told the person calling that this was incorrect, that I was looking at the duplicate charge online at that very moment. At this point, she asked if I could fax a copy of the statement to the store. I said that I did not have a statement yet, just the online transaction history on the account, and that I did not feel that I should have to go out of my way to fix their screw-up. I told her that they either fix the problem this week, or I would contact my attorney.

Today, I called the local store again and spoke with a manager. She said that the charge should have been removed. I told her it was still there. I demanded that she give me the name and number of someone at their main office. I called and left a message for one of their "comptrollers" to call me ASAP to fix their screw-up.

Add to all of this the fact that it took La-Z-Boy almost a full month to deliver the entire sectional, and this whole experience is rapidly turning into a nightmare.

We'll see what happens tomorrow with their "comptroller". Hopefully, this will get resolved without further incompetence from La-Z-Boy. Their name doesn't begin to describe my opinion of them now.

I'll post back when I talk to their rep tomorrow.

Thanks for listening!

When you got your actual statement was the "duplicate" charge listed?

Pal Ron: Out of all the stores you visited this x-mas season I would like for you to think back! (if you can do this) Out of those stores how many times did you complain about something? Yes, that's right a bunch! Out over these just god awful events how many times did you treat to get your attorney? All of them? People like you are one of the driving factors in our bad financial state in America. In other words you are an idiot! Go complain to the site about me and get your attorney on them you dumb a*s!

To "Bill" from "Brooklet, Georgia U.S.A." RE: A fix for you Submitted: 6/21/2008 8:18:01 PM Modified: 6/21/2008 9:18:21 PM First off, thank you for your helpful response to my report. I certainly felt much better after reading it several months after you most likely spent several hours composing it. Tell me, did you have to get your little sister to help you type on the computer and form up the words? I'm not even sure why you bothered to reply, since your "input" helped absolutely no one, except maybe yourself. And, I'm not your "pal"; I don't even know (or care) who you are, or who you think you are. As to your question "What are you looking for hear?".... hmmm, where to start. I was sharing my experience with a bad company to benefit others. That is, after all, the whole point of this web site. If my comment was of no benefit to you, and you had nothing positive to add, just move along and STF up. No need to act like a 'tard and post insulting comments that have nothing to do with the matter being discussed. Oh, and nice spelling, too. You finished, what, 8th grade in Georgia, right? As far as not getting my "first statement yet", I didn't need to. That's the beauty of online account access, you don't have to wait. I assume you are familiar with the concept, since you posted your comments on this site. Or, did you do that from the library in West BF, Georgia (I'll assume you know what a library is). Besides, genius, if I had waited for the statement, I would not have known about the overcharge for another 30 days. Your comment just confirms that you're a Georgia hillbilly that has nothing better to do than pick a fight based on redneck "logic". Do us all a favor, "Bill". Next time you have a thought .... keep it to yourself. And leave the sheep alone!

Relax pal. Get your Attorney? I am sure that would be productive! What are you looking for hear? Do you think you won the lottery or something. I bet you complain about everyhing you buy. You have not even gotten your first statement yet. Are you that anal that you have to check it on-line right away? They will fix it pal if you don't owe it. Go get your coupon for a starbucks coffee out of your mail box and then complain that it was not hot enough for you. Then go get your 3.85 cent a gallon gas and then go home right away and check to make sure that they did not charge you 3.86 cent a gallon.

UPDATE 1: They're still La-Z!

Called the Odenton, MD office this morning and spoke with Stephanie Pena, one of their "comptrollers". At first, she said it was being looked at. When I pressed for resolution, she said someone was putting the credit through at that very moment. This was around 9:30am. I told her I would check with GE Money Bank later in the day to confirm that the chargeback went through. When I got home from work, I check the account online and nothing had changed. I called GE Money Bank and asked if there were any pending transactions that did not show on the online transaction history. I was told that charges and credits are posted and visible as soon as they are received. I asked if there was any lag time on their end and was told that there was not. So, since La-Z-Boy had apparently lied to me, I called Ms. Pena back and left her a voicemail stating that she needed to call me back immediately or she would be hearing from my attorney. This company is apparently very inept and doesn't care about screwing over customers. I also told GE Money Bank to note on the account that I refuse to make any payments at all until this bullshit gets cleared up. I am now considering contacting the MD Attorney General's office on Monday to see what can be done about possible credit card fraud. PLEASE DON'T PATRONIZE THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY!!
