My daughter came home from college in CA for the 1st time in Nov. and wanted to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Her favorite store is Sirens in Arundel Mills Mall; the clothing is very cute and affordable.

She found a pair of pants onsale 75% off and a sweater; loved them; waited a LONG time to pay for them. The cashier rung them up,a credit/dbit card was used to pay, plopped a rcpt on the counter for her to sign, pushed a bag in her face and called for the next person.

My daughter pulled the rcpt out of the bag, realized that the 75% off had not been applied and had to get back in the LONG line to tell her story. The cashier was quite annoyed because now she had to have her sale voided (3rd time that day) which required that a manager, (someone svrl months out of diapers) come over, stare at the rcpt along with eveyone else and make a phone call. The reason why this was SOOO involved is because the store does not give cash refunds.

The sale ,according to the manager, was voided, the original rcpt was kept by them, and the items were re-rung and the correct amount debited from her acct...WRONG

When the bank statement arrived, her acct was charged twice, once for the full amount and once for the sale amount.

When I went to the store rcpts in hand, to tell them about their honest mistake I was told that I needed to call their home office, a company called YM, in Canada.

I've been calling them and Canada ever since...I'm sure that what I've spent in phone calls to Canada probably comes close to the amount that she was overcharged.

The rcpts, which are those little yellow copies which fade over time are next to impossible to read now.(I should have photo copied them from the start) but who knew that a store would insist on screwing us out of $41.21...a simple mistake which THEY made.

i understand the pain of the consumer who was not handled with sensitivity and understanding. i just have to say that Sirens clothing stores are very far from me and i drive 1 hour to experience the buying experience that i do at a Sirens. i find the best fashion and prices that are unbelievable to the other stores. i have to say that there is a person in corporate that would bring a solution to your problem without a doubt. i just love the store and would not base the purpose of the store's concept on some employee's misjudgment or lack of ethic.

First off i am 23 years old and when i was 16 i would have never let anyone rip me off. As for the measly $41.00 remark, not everyone is a spoiled brat! You will probably go through life just letting people walk all over you and take your money because after all you're a spoiled brat. I do believe it's you that will need a reality check. You will get that reality check the first time mommy and daddy aren't there to bail you out or give you more money. When you have to pay $1300 a month for your mortgage or $500 a month for your car payment and that doesn't include insurance the reality will set in. Get over yourself, if you keep thinking like this you will be a very sad person. Now shouldn't you be out playing with your barbies or having a tea party or something. Little girls shouldn't speak about things they know nothing about.

If you do everything you say you do, you should be smart enough to not let a store overcharge you even a small amount of money. If you know it is so hard to come by, why would you disagree with someone who is fighting for what is right? My Mommy and Daddy didn't hand things over to me. I worked for them (still do). And I fight when someone tries to take something they have no right to, something I have worked hard to get. No I didn't do a straight four year college because I had two work to put myself through school. I didn't have to take care of several siblings. I only had one younger brother. When I had my child, I had one because I felt that was all I could afford. And although I had put back money for her to go to college, she chose to do her basic courses at the junior college because it was less expensive, picked up classes online and worked as many as three jobs. And don't think for one minute if she had been the girl who was overcharged she wouldn't have been on it immediately to get her money back.

Reality Check

I would just like to know who you think you are to say that i need a reality check. I may not pay all the bills, but i have to work pretty friggen hard to get to where i want to go. My family does not have a lot of money and i have to work to HELP pay the bills to HELP out wwith money...I also have to help take care of my 3 younger brothers and sister. I am the oldest of 4 kids and one of the most hard working 17 year olds i know. I'm graduating this year and want to go on to university to be a teacher, we dont have the kind of money for that and i have to work my a*s off with countless jobs babysitting, helping a woman with a party business, also i have job working at a recreation centre, in order for me to go to school. So dont tell me that i need a reality check. I think that i work pretty d**n hard if you ask me. And im pretty sure that you werent doing anything like what im doing at my age. You probably never got the chance to go to school and just got your job by being you. Nowadays we cant do that, we actually have to go to school, get a good education and then have to find a job. I dont think that im the one who needs a reality check, you need to realize that not everyone has a crap load of money, and some people actually have to work hard for their money.

So, Steff, you are 16 years old. So, do you own your own home, have your own car, and pay all the bills Grown Ups pay? I make more than $41.21 in one hour and I would be angy if someone tried to rip me off for $10.00. The point is, once you are an adult and have to pay ALL the bills (including going to college and all the necessary expenses), you should be standing up for yourself and fighting being ripped off as well. It could be a mere $41.21 this month and three or four thousand next month. Fortunately you have time to learn before you get a reality check.

I am a store manager for the comapny YM in canada and I was really shocked by both the reports on here. One I feel that the customer had every right to post what she did,She felt she had exhausted every possibility and did not recieve any help on the matter so being upset posted here. When I first started with the company I made the same mistake as the one you experienced and I really must apologize as it is very complicating and extremely fusterating for yourself and I know as the store manager it was for me as well, I didn't want my store to be known as a store the rips off there customers. I still dont. Although yes 41.21 is a fair price to pay for a sweater and pants it is not the price that you were suppose to pay it was suppose to be cheaper and you have every right to the money you are owed. Although it must be very fusterating for you call a local store and get a 1800 number you wont have to indure the phone charges and I am sure headoffice will work dilagently to solve your problem-really its a company that is making changes for the better just be patient. And for extra leverage fax them a copy of your report I did to my immediate supervisor. No comapny wants to be on the rip off list. Things may be diffrent from the States to Canada but I promise if in my store we made a mistake like that we would do our utmost to solve the problem in a timely matter and with the highest level of service that we could.

I don't understand why Steff feels a need to take this to a personal level. I'm not in the habit of offering stores more than the price on the tag. I think it's wrong to not correct an easily correctable error and , I'm sure her mother would agree with me if she saw her daughter (who works hard) taken advantage of.

Why didn't you just leave it the way it was...$41.21 isn't THAT much money!

The story about the girl not getting her money returned is very sad..I mean really, it was ONLY $41.21...I'm 16 years old and that's how much money I make for a few hours. I'm sure that your daughter, if she's going to school and working like a responsible student WOULD be, then she would have the money...Or I'm sure that since you're her parent, you would have paid part of it since she was going to school...No one can possibly be THAT cheap to go back to the store for a measly $41.21...I mean really that's a good deal in itself, ESPECIALLY for jeans and a shirt...You should really be embarassed by what you have done, especially posting this stuff on the internet...really how sad is that??? A mother who has to get her daughters problem known by EVERYONE right??? That is so sad it's not even funny! Why couldn't your daughter deal with it on her own? Obviously you do WAY too much for your daughter! I have to work everyday, go to school plus homework, I have to get there on my own and find time to do my homework and other things that I have to finish...Does YOUR daughter do that? Most likely not, you're probably one of those mothers who has to do everything for your child from waking her up in the morning to making her breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus laundry and her homework... I honestly wouldn't doubt it...But next time your daught has a problem, try making HER do it for once, I'm sure she'll be able to handle it on her own...she is a university student is she not?
