Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Late 2013, my three year tenure at Sleepy's ended abruptly as it does with most Sleepy's employees. What it comes down to is that some people are completely without ethics and are better suited to be theives than others.

Sleepy's implies they staff mattress professionals and advertize they "make the world a better place to sleep." These implications and claims could not be further from the truth. At Sleepy's salespeople only work on commission while a professional by definition is paid for their time and services. At Sleepy's all salespeople are mandated to follow "The Process". Here is an insiders view and the dirty little secret about Sleepy's. You be the judge.

"The Process" is mandated. It involves first greeting the customer, establishing rapport, focusing on sleep , acting as if you care, selection of mattress, getting the customer to the desk and then getting the customer to pay as high a price as possible.

All Sales people are ranked based upon highest gross percentage in other words who charges customers the most. Gross profit margins of about 70% are about the norm. The best liars and con men got the best Stores and make the most money. In Massachusetts there are only a handfull of good stores, they are Newton, Brookline, Dorchester, Dedham and Beverly; the rest of the stores get very little traffic.

Once getting the customer to the desk we were mandated to try to get as much as possible. I could sell the exact same mattress set, the Simmons 6693 Queen Set, to one customer for $1299.99 and to another for $599.99.

The mandated "proccess" involved once at desk try to sell at full price. If customer hesitates and only if necessary make a few so called "credible drops". "Credible drops" range from reaching into the desk drawer and claiming you have one coupon leftover then tearing from large coupon pads a coupon in $25, $50 or $100 denominations depending on what you feel will do the trick to making up fairy tales about excess inventory in that style or an order cancellation and everything in between. Any story as long as it appears credible and you bleed ,lower price, slowly.

If after a few credible drops customer does not buy it was mandated "no one walks without calling a manager". The managers were even bigger liars than the best salepeople and they would create another fairy tale taking one last swing at the bat to get the customer to buy. If managers could still not get customer to buy they would then always "poison the crumbs" meaning throw out the best price so when customer goes to competition they make it difficult for a competitor. The same mattress set $1299.99 to one customer and $599.99 to another customer.

If mandating this process involving lying to every customer and essentially encouraging grand larceny is in any way "making the world a better place to sleep" I would like to know how. The entire process involves lies, deceit, and just pure evil for the sake of inordinately large profit margins always at the customers expense.

These are dangerous people. Sleepy's is a new York based company with a New york burn and turn mentality. They are professionals at taking advantage of people and I can not urge anyone strongly enough to avoid doing business with Sleepy's. Word is getting around fast however to date Sleepy's continues to operate at the expense of every customer.

You be the judge.
