I first took my classic 1959 Metropolitan into South Coast Auto, Dale Capps owner, to have my breaks repaired and possibly replaced. Since my car is a classic, I wanted to have original parts used. I knew that would cost more, so when Dale told me the price, I agreed. I was satisfied with his work, and a few months later brought my car back to have the windshield wipers and the horn & blinker mechanism repaired.
Dale called me & said he would replace the horn/blinker and repair my wipers, and he gave me a ballpark quote. I was fine with that and again authorized the repairs.

A few weeks later I picked up my car. The next day when I went to use my wipers and lights at the same time, they wouldn't work, so I called Dale. He told me to bring the car back. His mechanic told me he knew what he did wrong and he'd fix it. Dale called and said he'd leave my keys on the mat so I could pick it up after hours, which I did.

The next week the same thing happened with the wipers and lights. I again called Dale and he again told me to bring my car back. After approximately a month he called me and said my car was ready to pick up. I asked him if he'd leave the keys on the mat again since I couldn't pick up the car before he left, to which he replied, "I need to get paid." I asked him what for since I had already paid him for the repair, and he started yelling at me. I told him I would close my business early and go to his shop so we could discuss this without yelling.

My husband & I went to his shop and he presented me with a $1500 bill for his "repairs." He stated that he decided to do some repairs other than what I had asked for, and that he needed to replace my wiper motor and parts, which he stated that he did. I asked him why he didn't call me with an estimate before he started this work and he stated that I would have told him not to do the work. I told him he was right because I have to budget for repairs and it would have been a while before we did that particular repair. He then said the "You have 2 choices. You can pay me or I will keep your car." I gave him my credit card, but his machine did not take American Express, so he told me to write a check. I started to, then he said he would have American Express set up later on in the week and he'd call me so I could come in and pay then. He kept my car locked in a bay.

The next morning Dale called me and stated that the only method of payment he would take from me was cash, since I could dispute the charge. I told him that I would not pay cash. He then said that I was "sticking drunk" when I went in to pick up my car, and started screaming at me again. I stated that I would be contacting my attorney and then decide what to do.

The next day was a Saturday, and as I drove home I noticed a group of picketers outside of South Coast Auto group. I found out that there are many people that Dale Capps has pulled this kind of scam on. If you have had this happen please contact me at (((REDACTED))).
