Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I own a heating and air-conditioning company and my transactions vary from anywhere around $100 to $10,000. I've been using the square app on my iPhone to process these transactions and now they're holding a little over $5300 of my money and wont process the transactions. They have already had me refund one transaction that was over $6,000 because they wouldn't pay it so now I look like an idiot to the customers because I had to explain to them why I refunded their money to their perfectly good credit card and my other customers have already paid on the balance on their credit card bills so obviously this is a problem because I can't get my money. Squareup.com(Square) advertises that there is no dollar amount limit to swiped transactions and that they will have the money deposited within 36 hours. This is a LIE!!!!! Here is their reply to one of my many emails to them:

Please refund your transaction, as you will not be paid out. If you are unsure of how to refund a payment, please see: https://help.squareup.com/customer/portal/articles/163698#online (we refund the fees also)

I apologize for this inconvenience, but our decision is final.

Moving forward, in order to avoid getting payments declined, we recommend keeping your transactions under $3,000. Please also note that it is against our User Agreement to split transactions (i.e. charging $5,000 twice instead of $10,000 once), as this will lead to a deactivation. Thanks,

Square Risk?

help.squareup.com

Before I got this lovely response from them they had me fill out a lot of useless information about what I was doing to collect the money and send them pictures of the invoices. Not to mention they asked for access to my facebook page(for verification reasons). And now even after all this they are requesting more information from me! ...A copy of my business license or any other form of government issued certificates... After I've given them everything in the first place. My question is this... Why would I have to split transactions if there is no limit to swiped tranactions? And why don't they have a number for customer support? It's like pulling teeth trying to get a response through email from them because they aren't in any hurry at all!! Save yourself the stress, headache, and anxiety!!! DON'T USE SQUARE!! This mediocre company is RIPPING EVERYONE OFF!!!

This company "Square" will take your client's payment and then decide that they are not going to pay you for 90 days.  Out of the clear blue, they terminate your account without reason and make you go back to your client to do a refund and ask for a check.  We shall see how long the refund takes.  Meanwhile Square has the funds to play with in their account.  This is fraud, plain and simple. Someone needs to put them out of business.

Get Your Own True Merchant Account

Howie and other Square users or potential new Square users: Square is an aggregator.  As such you do not have a true merchant account.  There is no or very little evaluating the risk before the Square account is set up.  This is why this is happening to you and others.  They are evaluating it on the back end.  Of course this does not help you and what make matters worst there is little customer service.

Square works for the very rare occasionally user with very low tickets.  Solution is to get a true merchant account.  Look for an independent representative.  Get references and look for a Certified Payments Professional (CPP).  You can find them by searching the internet. Avoid going to your bank for processing credit cards as they will charge you too much.  Avoid contacts. There are good people to help you, just search for us.  I hope this helps.  Ray at Tampa Bay Merchant Services.
