The person that wrote that all states are the same is so very incorrect. The other states may in fact change interest but not the way California does. My husband and myself also deal with California and our own child support enforcement rep. told us that we will never get CA paid off due to the way they charge the interest. He says there is not another state like it and he is correct, we have done extensive research into the matter. When I met my husband 10 years ago he owed $17,000 in back child support. I am a firm believer in paying your child support so in order for us to become married they matter had to be resolved. I contact the state of CA and gave them his address, employer, etc. At that time he began have his support deducted direct from his paycheck and direct to the state of CA. He has paid religiously every month for the past several years. He went from owing $17,000 to now we owe over $30,000. It is a major rip off!!!!! I understand the child support issue as I am on the other end as well. My childs father doesn't pay a dime and doesn't attempt to. So there, I understand both sides of the issue. I think the no passport law for back childsupport is a great law for those who aren't attempting to pay. However, those who have made regular payments for years and the amount continues to grow due to the rip off of the state should be allowed a passport. It is ridiculous you will never get ahead with CA. You can ask any CSE worker in any state that deals with CA and they will tell you the same thing.

I understand your feelings. I'm also paying Child support. but what you need to know is, this is the problem that isn't specific to California only. I have a friend who paid support to Alabama and they charged him interest. the problem is, the system benefits from the interest. you are right, it does NOT go to the child, so the child's best interest ISN'T the priority. It would appear that the system has found a way to profit and gain monies fo r the state who are strapt for cash. But take heart, your fellow support paying fathers are in the same boat. I suggest you seek legal help from a local center for people in financial hardship like you. they probably can deal with this. a lawyer who knows what he is doing can help you out tremedously. My best wishes
