Scott Humphries, owner of The House Doctor was hired in June to rennovate 2 bathrooms, 2 closets, and some miscellaneous items in my home. The total contract was for $14,000.

The house was empty when the work was started as we were relocating from Chicago and our furniture was not scheduled to be delivered for two more weeks. The work was supposed to be completed during this time. It was not and the only 3 items that were in the house were stolen. The complany was the only people that had access to the home during this time. A police report has been filed for the missing items.

As of July 31st, Scott Humphries had recieved $9,265.00 in advances toward the completion of the work. He has not returned any attempts to contact him since that date.

Since that time, I have found out from other contractors that some of the tile was improperly installed, an installed tub and shower surround were both spray painted, one was also improperly installed, and there are several items that willl need to be replaced or repaired. Obviously, this will cost me additional money.

Scott Humphries has also left the inside and outside of my house a mess. The carpet has stains throughout the house and we will need to hire professional carpet cleaners, our epoxy tiled garage floor is ruined, there are cement stains on the bricks of my home, the bricks in the driveway are oil stained, a pool pump was ruined while they had access to the home since they were using it without permission (my neighbors are witnesses), there were cigarette butts and garbage in the bathrooms, garage, driveway, and backyard, and the construction garbage is still in my driveway that will cost me close to $300 to remove.

When I did not hear back from this contractor, I contacted the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations regarding his licensure. He advertises on the internet and his business cards and signs and a Class A licensed and insured contractor. According to the department, Scott Humphries is only licensed as a tradesman electrician for up to $1000.00 worth of work.

To add insult to injury, I found an add on craigslist that he has posted using pictures of my bathroom as the tile was being installed. Obviously, this was done without my permission.
