A puppy mill is a crude, outdoor breeding farm that mass-produce puppies for sale to pet stores and regularly supply dogs to laboratories and animal brokers.

So just because you didn't pick your puppy up from a puppy mill doesn't mean that they didn't come from there. Shannon has called me an attempted to purchase multiple dogs from me (with a discounted price for buying a group of dogs) for resale at her own home. She has represented herself as a member of the Houston Chihuahua Club, which she is not a part of.

What to Look For: Puppy brokers always have dogs available. How is this? If they don't have one in stock for you today, they will have one for you shortly. They just happen to know of a great litter from champion lines about to be ready for new homes! Use common sense! Breeding is not an overnight process! Quality breeders have waiting lists for their dogs and puppies are often sold prior to the actual birth. How has this broker found you such a great dog on such short notice?

Meet the Dam

Always meet the dam of a litter and pick the puppy up on location where the dogs are kenneled/live. If a seller will not allow you to go to the actual property where the dogs live, be very suspicious. If they hesitate to allow you to meet the dam, they either have not bred the dogs themselves or the dam is not who they claim. The sire is commonly not on property, but you always have the right to contact the sire's owners. Be warned: they will go out of their way to cover the fact they themselves are not the actual breeder of a litter and may outright lie about this.

Please be careful with this person. She breeds a few dogs herself, but most of her pups come from local puppy mills.

Teacup, pocket, micro, whatever other false terms they are using now and in some Teacup, pocket, micro, whatever other false terms they are using now and in some breeds it's mini. If a breeder uses those terms it means to run the other way. FAST. Those terms indicate they either lack in ethics or knowledge and neither situation means well for a buyer and the new companion they have taken life time responsibility for. Ethical and knowledgeable breeder's/seller's not only explain those terms don't exist, but all the health problems and additional care and negatives associated with a dog who is so much smaller than normal or the size range deemed healthy for the breed. I know plenty of breeder's who will actually run tests for at least a liver shunt if it appears a pup is going to be undersized to be sure it's not one of the likely health problems causing the size. *just my opinions*

The origonal poster, Sally, seemed very knowledgable and credible. Funny that you don't know that you will not find her number posted at the top as you are not allowed to post your own personal information. My cousin called the houston chihuahau club and they said that Shannon was not a member. I wonder why? Her dogs are not located at her house and not AKC registered. The chihuahua club said that they do not promote the kind of breeding associated with the Ensminger lady. Call them your self and find out. there are lots of other breeders in Hosuton to choose from. She is not the only one, just the only one that trys to sell 4500$ dogs that are not even AKC registered. How can her dogs be bred there in her home where my cousin picked up her dog if all of the parents are located at her puppy ranch? If I were her, I would not be flattered (as she says) to have other breeders talking about me like that.

Its Truely Sad What Jealousy Makes people do.

I will respond to this report once and once only. I am not and never will be a puppy mill. My pups are bred here, whelped here and sold here from my home. I have never sold a puppy to a pet store or lab nor ever would. I welcome any proof of such accusations. I take great pride in breeding chihuahuas and love and devote tons of my time and energy towards raising healthy puppies. I have vet references for anyone that is willing to call me at the number above, which the reporter wrote instead of her own number. Do You wonder why? This is a clue the statements are false and have no creditability. I guess I should be flattered that someone would waste their time to make up false stories because they are jealous of my tiny little babies. Everyone is welcome to come to my home and view the parents of the puppies that are available to loving homes. All of my puppies can be DNA checked and verified at anytime which is proof that I own my parents. Alot of other local breeders can not do this and will have a story why they can't. I truely believe in my heart that this claim was made up falsely by a jealous competitor to damage my good reputation and standings in the chihuahua breeding community. Its sad what others will do to try to make themselves look better. I truely hope that this person rids herself of such hatred in her heart. I will pray for her and ask you to do the same.
