On Saturday, September 18, 2010, Tony William General Contracting Inc., was hired by Longley Condominium Services Ltd to re-shingle the roof on my condo unit.  The Roofing company removed the old shingles and started to re-shingle the roof but did not complete the last six feet on that day. They left for the day without covering the un-shingled part of the roof.

The weather reports show that it rained overnight in Calgary for a good part of the night.  I woke up to two puddles on the floor, one in the bathroom and one in the entryway by the door.  Water was running down from the opening for the vent fan, where the cover had fallen off due to water sturation of the drywall.

The ceiling drywall was softened so much that it was sagging downward creating dimples where the attached screws / nales are.

The report from the inspection company shows the water stains in the attic part of the roof corresponding to th part of the roof that was not covered.  With the insulation now soaked and frozen through the winter and in April 2011 when the weather warmed up outside and the insulation starting thawing, the water started to leak down the walls in numerous locations throughout the condo.

When we tried to have this issue taken care of, the management company totally ignonored the issue until we pressed it stating that if they did not reolve the issue we would be forced to take legal action at which time they had the roofing company that did the work to begin with come in and inspect the issue.  Well do you really think that the roofers are going to admit an error when it will cost them money?  All they did was to turn the table and try to blame everything and everyone else for their neglegence.

Then the management company said they would have the insurance company take a look.  Number one this is not an insurance issue.  The roofers are the ones that are at fault and they should be the ones to correct the damage they have done.

When it was evident that the management company was still not willing to rectify this situation again we sent a letter that if this issue is not dealt with speedily we would be forced to take legal action. Then the management company on the advise of the board retained a lawyer and sent us a threatening letter the we as condo owners had better correct the problem within thirty days or they would have the work done and put a lein against our property.  Nice board hey!  They are suppose to be there to protect the owners.

Well the thirty days came and went and nothing was done.  So I sent the lawyer a letter asking why they had not carried out their threat.  Well we received a letter back stating that we should consider ourselves fortunate that the board did not go further with it.

Obviously we were getting no where really fast trying to expect these people to live up to their responsibilities so now it is in the court system.  I have filed a civil claim against Tony William General Contracting Inc., Longley Condominium Services Ltd., and the condo corporation.  Stay tuned to see what becomes of all of this.
