Scooter repair rip off from Tropical Scooters, LLC.  The owners are Mark & Michele Stanley.  I don't have a lot of money.  So, I ride a scooter back and forth to work.

I was quoted a repair cost.  It was 40.00 the estimate they quoted.  I paid, because I needed my scooter to go back and forth to work.  I don't make a lot of money I gave them my last $188.00 to do the repair.  The next day I rode my scooter to work and broke down 7 miles from my house.  I had to push my scooter all the way home.

I called Mark Stanley.  Said the drive belt broke, which is why I had it repaired.  Also the clutch assembly.  He said I didn't do anything wrong.  I opened up my scooter and the belt was chewed up, drive plate was put back wrong, etc..

bolts missing, a rather large hunk of melted plastic ( which was not in there before) had no reason to be in my cvt case.  I assume Mark Stanley left it there.

With Mark Stanley putting the drive plate on backwards and hunks of plastic thrown in there this caused the belt to be chewed up.  I asked for that portion of the money to be refunded.  The same day I took everything down in a bag and explained.  He didn't want to hear.

He said too bad not his fault.  I know it was his fault, he was the one repairing my scooter.  He would not refund any of the money, I wasn't asking for it all back only a partial refund.

They ripped me off my last 200.00 dollars and my scooter is still broken a month later.  I havent the funds to repair it.  I've been riding my bike.  People like Mark & MIchele Stanley should be held accountable for their dishonest ways.

I pray someone reads this and goes to another scooter repair shop.  I don't want anyone else ripped off by these people pretending to be mechanics.

As with any mechanical parts, things will go wrong and break. And with Scooters (just like cars) you basically get what you pay for. If you go into a store to buy the 'cheapest' scooter because you dont have enough money to buy a more quality scooter, AND ride it everyday as your primary means of transportation, any reasonable person can expect machanical issues.

I purchased a scooter from Tropical Scooters 4 months ago. I researched both scooter manufacturers and dealers in the Seminole/Largo area.  When I went to Michelle and Mark with my questions and my newly found knowledge of scooters, they both gave me candid and direct answers. Michelle was patient with my questions and helped me choose the best scooter for me.
(compared to 2 other dealers that were more concerned with 'bells & whistles' to sell me or did not have enough time to even acknowlege me on their lot).

A person's size, wieght, & expected amount of usage are 3 main considerations in buying a scooter (along with personal perferences of course). For example, If you are a person of 5'10 or more, 180 lbs or more, using the scotter 6 days+ per week, then a 50cc scooter may not be a wise investment.

Scooters DO NOT come with a lifetime warranty. They are NOT maintenence free. They can NOT be expected to haul the wieght of a grown man 7 days a week on a small engine given weather (wind) conditions, which will affect the amount of stress on a drive belt.

As far as the way Michelle and Mark 'handled' this specific issue, i was not there, and can only speak for my own experience.  A few weeks after my purchase, i noticed an oil leak. I called and spoke to Mark over the phone and he did some trouble shooting. I was able to get my scooter to the shop where i left it for a few hours (they do have other customers) where Mark found an oil line that appeared to be connected improperly (from the manufacturer). He changed my oil (what was left of it) refilled it, and corrected the faulty oil line.

Bottom Line: 1) Dont expect a Scooter to be maintenence free, 2) Be realistic in your expectations of preformance based on what you are doing to your scooter (size of motor vs size of person, amount of usage, weather conditions) 3) (and most important in my opinion- When there is a problem when going to the dealer- kindness and politness goes a LONG WAY with Michelle & Mark (as with any small business owner).
