I have been crying for hours and am too embarrassed to even leave my house because my hair is orange.
First visit was 9/1. Saw Arpa. She touched up my roots and freshened my color. It ended up a light ash blonde. It was a little too light, so she promised to take it one shade darker the next time.
Second visit was 10/9. Arpa took my hair one shade darker, gave me a cut and blow dry. Due to the way she dried my hair and the bad store lighting, I could not get a close look.
The next day on 10/10, I discovered that my roots were orange. The rest of the hair was a medium ash blonde and was fine. I called the store and said that someone must fix the orange roots. The manager, Archie, scheduled me for 10/11 at 1:45pm with Arpa.
Arpa looked at my roots and agreed they were orange and promised to fix them right away. Instead of just doing my roots, she used some dark toner, pulled it through all of my hair, left it on too long, and ended up making my hair brown.
So then she said she would lighten it with some special shampoo. This turned my entire head orange. She then said she knew how to fix it, and again did some toner. And again my hair was orange. TWO HOURS had gone by. Now, instead of being a pretty blonde with orange roots, my ENTIRE HEAD was orange.
At this point, I expressed my unhappiness with the situation. Arpa snapped at me that my "energy" was upsetting her and that she could not do good work unless I stopped putting out such bad energy. She then said that I was a very mean person and that I had ruined HER day!
Can you imagine that? I'm sitting there with orange hair, and she's complaining to the customer that HER day is ruined! She then said, "TRUST ME. I am a color expert. I know how to fix this." And AGAIN, she put me through a round of toner and shampoo. With each round, my hair was getting drier and more damaged.
After round three, STILL ORANGE! I said to her - now will you please do this right way? You have to strip my hair at this point and then put color one. (She was using semi-permanent for all those rounds!) She refused. She said NO, I know what I am doing.
I spoke to Archie, the manager, who insisted that I give Arpa a chance to fix my hair. (I had already given her over 2 hours and multiple attempts!)
She put me through a FOURTH ROUND of the same nonsense. STILL orange. She then said that she would only bleach my hair at that point if I signed a release! Before those 4 rounds, she should have just bleached the roots in the first place and put color on!
She then put me through another round HER WAY, and said, "Oh I've fixed it now." Then she took me out to the station, started to dry my hair and admitted it was still not blonde.
At that point, she put some permanent color on it. That made it a dark orange with brown. Arpa also said that God would help her fix my hair, and that I just needed to be patient.
Now remember I walked in at 1:45pm. At this point it's about 5:15pm and my hair is STILL ORANGE! Archie the manager has left. I am forced to speak with the manager on duty - Ko (a man who dresses like a woman, wears a wig and uses the ladies bathroom).
Arpa has been crying for an hour, saying that it is my fault that the color went bad because I have been so mean to her, and she warns me that when I get home, karma will get me for being mean to her! I am very upset at this point. Ko says my only choice is to get a refund, and see if Jackie can fix my hair on Tuesday!
I've now lost 4 hours on my Saturday, my ONLY day to do errands, because of the orange roots from Thursday. I work a day job and can't possibly lose pay going in on a Tuesday, plus I now have to either wear a hat or not leave my house. I AM DEVASTATED by this orange hair.
This was NOT handled properly. This was gross negligence and incompetence. On top of that, I am going to need to see a masseuse and a chiropractor, as I have suffered physical injuries from this experience.
My neck and back of head are numb. My neck was in the sink for excessive amounts of time, and the chairs are not comfortable, causing me tremendous lower back pain. The back of my neck and top 2 vertebrae are bruised badly. I have suffered both physical and emotional distress as a result of this experience.
Getting a refund was not sufficient. I don't know how I'll go to work like this on Monday, or when I'll even have the time to leave work and get this fixed. I can't even leave the house now with orange hair. I'm having facial surgery on Wednesday which means I won't be able to get my hair wet for at least a week. So if I don't fix the hair in the next 2 days, I'm stuck with orange hair for weeks!
My hair was shiny, healthy, and a pretty ash blonde (albeit with orange roots). Now the whole head is orange. Dry. Damaged. Dull.
NO EXCUSE for this kind of incompetence. She was too arrogant and over confident and refused to admit she was wrong. With each round, she made my hair worse and more damaged. Even one of her co-workers admitted she should have bleached it in the first place to lift the red. But they wanted me to sign a "release" which I was not stupid enough to do.
Avoid Ulta Salons at all costs.
