United Circulation Sold fake magazine subscription(s) using his fraternity and the U S Military to benefit ....Columbia Missouri
This was a door to door solicitation that I have no address record, reciept or any other documentation other than a copy of my cancelled check. I was scammed 50 years ago in a magazine sales scam but I had forgotten until now.
A well dressed, polite young man appeared at our door at about 5 pm on 10-10-2008. He told me he was representing a magazine subscription company getting donations of subscriptions to military personnel overseas. He said he was a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia hoping to raise money so his fraternity could go to London over Thanksgiving Break.
The deal was: For $80 his company would provide 10 subscriptions to magazines of the soldiers choice. He didn't say how much the fraternity would get because it depended on which magizines were chosen by the soldiers. As a futher inducement, we would get $40 refunded in 2-3 weeks because we were senior citizens. I told him that we would save the refund hassle by just paying the $40 but he said he wasn't authorized to do that. (That should have sounded an alarm)
He was a very chatty young man and when asked what his major was, it was Radio/TV Communication. I suggested that he should consider a major in Marketing because his personality leaned that way. (I was right that time.) At no time did he offer any literature to support his pitch but he did offer to come back after Thanksgiving and clean out the rain gutters. Needless to say, we haven't seen him since.
The only item I have from all this is a copy of my check that has 7557. 15/15 800615/15, Kenny and some more un-decipherable writing in the "For" line. Since this is a statement copy of my check, I don't have access to the back but it is available for a fee from my bank.
Not much to go on, is there.

Yes this is a scam, United Circulation based out of waterloo iowa. They will lie to get your money, theft by deception. Who would really buy a overpriced magazine from a door to door saleman. But you would probaly buy one from a neighbor to help out for a school trip or fundraiser. Ask questions, and use common sense. Yes the owner is jake stack out of waterloo iowa.

I like the fact that the person scream's "Insider Information!" yet posts information copied and pasted from the Iowa Secretary of State. Hardly "insider information" if you ask me. Secondly, you "think" the company doesn't clear it's orders. I contest anyone to post FACTUAL information and not some verbal slander. That is all I will respond to, seeing as how the poster never posted any, factual, insider information. Our customer's our very important to us, as well as our reputation. The person who posted this info is probably an ex-agent who was terminated from their position for the exact reason this single report is on this website. (seeing as how they knew exactly where to post.) United Circulation is in it's 3rd year of business and is a competing force in the magazine business. I will dismiss any person attacks as slander, unless, you have factual proof to state otherwise.

I used to work for this company. The guy who owns the company, Jake, used to work as a sales agent for a big company in the industry. He thought he could do it on his own and tried to start his own company. He goes around and hires people who got fired from big companies and makes them managers of their own crews. They are running out of money pretty quickly, I don't think he is even clearing his orders any more.
