One of these "kids", as he kept calling himself, was just at my house two hours ago. It seemed like a strange encounter, so I got on-line and started looking for information on the company. I haven't seen anything good, and he just walked away with a $48 check from me.

Then, as I was looking at the receipt that I was given for their contact information I realized that he didn't even put my address down right so I won't get anything anyways! I am putting my cancellation notice in the mail tomorrow, and putting a stop payment on the check tomorrow morning as soon as the bank opens.

He was actually quite honest about his situation. He said the "Bug off" tag was because they drop them off in droves. He said he was selling magazines to earn points towards a trip and a cash prize. I don't recall that he said anything implying that he was a student or anything like that. What raised red flags for me was that when I asked him what recourse I had if I didn't end up getting my magazine, he referred to a website address on the receipt, and then after I got the receipt, there was no web address. Then upon further inspection of the receipt, almost nothing on it was legible, my address wasn't even complete. And the back of the receipt, where it is supposed to be signed and returned to cancel the transaction, there was a line where they were supposed to write the date by which it had to be returned and there was nothing there. I had seen a headline on a news website the day before regarding magazine scams, but didn't actually read the story. So I went online to search for that but couldn't find it. When I searched for United Family Circulation, Inc., I came up with this website as well as several Better Business Bureau listings, all of which said they were not a trusted company due to non-responsiveness to complaints. I have no intention of paying $48 for a magazine subscription that I will likely never see.

One of UFC sales agents did the same to me, through Platinum Sales, a sub-company of UFC. The agent told me she lives down the street with her father. Which sub-company was on your receipt? And did the sales agent also say or imply they live near by and/or is a student? As a side UFC will most likely honor your request and return your money since you sent it back within three days. If you had waited longer as I did, then a strongly worded fax or letter will work. Since many UFC agents misrepresent themselves, thus voiding the receipt, and they don't appear to have selling licenses, UFC doesn't have much of a legal leg to stand on, and therefore doesn't have the right to keep your money against your wishes if the book or magazines have yet to be delivered.
