You had one "delayed" message and instantly it is some huge RipOff?
It sounds like it may be a few things going on. First why do you shut your phone off at night? Any cell phone has a way to silence it if you don't want to be disturbed.
Next you said that you checked your messages and two hours later your friend called saying that she left a message 2 hours before. That is NOT "well before" as you said. In fact you said it was an hour later(which would have put it at 3 hours), but said it again was 2 hours. But if it was 2 hours the original message would have only been left 1 hour before your friend called you again. The point is that your idea of "precisely" may not be that accurate.
Did you actually listen to the Voice Mail, every system(and I don't think that they would be different) have a way to listen to the "timestamp" of the message, that is the time it was received.
Then perhaps they were having a system issue that some Customer Service person would have no idea about.
