When I was bringing my fiancee, now my wife, from the Philippines (we started 17 months ago), I filed my application according to the rules. One of the rules stated that I had to meed a minimum income of 125% over the poverty limit for my family size, which I did.

Here's the kicker: they raised the limit between now and then. Instead of meeting a 22,800 limit, I now have to meet 26,745, which is about $4000 per year more than I make.

Now they require that I find a co-sponsor--which I can't--or that she get a job, too. Kicker #2: she can't get a job unless we file the work authorization form and Affidavit of Support all at once. When I file these papers, it includes the one saying I don't make enough money. Our application will be rejected completely--including her work authorization--therefore she won't be able to get a job, and she won't be able to supplement my income to meet the minimum, therefore she and her daughter get deported.

That's going to do wonders for my own kids, who are finally happy to have a decent mother in their lives. We've been married two months now, and they already call her "mom". Her daughter has gotten around to calling me "papa", which all comes second to the INS getting their chubby from changing rules, extorting money from immigrants and citizens alike, and generally behaving like power-hungry cowards. (I'd use more appropriate language, but I don't want anyone to keep this from being posted.)
