US Xpress - Chattanooga, TN/Tunnel Hill, Georgia US Xpress strikes AGAIN! Chattanooga Tennessee
My husband and I have over 20 years EACH of (verifiable) driving experience and we talked to a recruiter for US Xpress and sent every imaginable paperwork to verify our credentials prior to making the trip for a "3 day job interview" in Tunnel Hill, GA. We were told that this would be a job interview when we first got there but instead it was an orientation. The first day was mainly waiting to do a physical, drug test and driving test. They took our driver's license and social security cards from us and kept them for an extended period of time and then I was told that since my Alabama state issued CDL license did not have my middle initial on it I would have 30 days to get that added to it. What was irritating about that was I had asked about this issue the week before going to the "3 day job interview" and told it was not an issue since my first name, last name and address were all correct on my license.
My husband was questioned, well, more or less interrogated, about and incident stemming from a mistake concerning a ticket from 2006 in a town in Mississippi which ended up with his license being revoked and he was arrested in Florida in June 2006. This by the way, has NEVER showed up on his MVR, EVER! Also, my husband told the recruiter about this incident even before we went to the "3 day interview" in Tunnel Hill, GA.
In 2006 when this occurred my husband contacted the court in MIssissippi and they sent a letter stating that it was a mistake on their part and his license should not have been revoked. The judge in Florida, where my husband was arrested for driving with a suspended license dismissed the case and that was the end of it.
NOT SO WITH US XPRESS!!! They interrogated my husband about this incident like he was a criminal and I had to pull up the court records on the internet for them to see all of the details about this incident.
My husband was brought into their orientation office 7 times and asked the same thing each time about this incident and told them the same thing each time. All he was told was that the "background investigator" wanted more details on it and was not satified. How much more detail can you give than a copy of the court records?! This all started on the afternoon of the first day there and went on throughout the 2nd day of the "3 day interview". We asked if this was going to have any bearing on us getting a job with US Xpress and was told to wait until the 3rd day and they would have it cleared up. We were apprehensive about going back the 3rd day but we stuck with it.
On the morning of the third day they called me in to verify my previous addresses and they started naming off cities and states I have NEVER lived in!!! I have lived in Alabama all of my life! I have lived at the same address for 6 years now and it's the same address as what is on my license!
I know that they have to check drivers out, they are entrusting someone with a piece of equipment that probably costs close to $100,000 so I can understand being questioned about your experience, driving record and previous employment but I do not see where they are getting some of the erroneous information that they questioned me about. I know that with a background check some information can be incorrect but I found with this company they feel like anything that they find is written in stone and that you MUST be lying to them!
My husband was told to call a lady in HR and he was told that he would not be hired basically because they thought he was not good enough and "things they found out about his past". My husband and I have over 40 years experience between the 2 of us and I have a CLEAN MVR and in the past I had a security clearance with the FBI to haul government freight!
But wait, here's the kicker...I asked the orientation instructor if I was correct in saying that this had been a job interview and I was told I was right. I asked if this would show up on my DAC and was told to call my recruiter...just by chance who was gone that day, so I asked for his supervisor and when I was able to contact her after numerous telephone calls was told that this would show up on my DAC as either quit or terminated during orientation for my husband and myself!!! Neither of us were ever told we had a job with US Xpress and we were never assigned a truck!!!
I asked how I could be terminated or quit when I was there for a "3 day interview"? The recruiting supervisor told me she didn't make the rules. I would have to make a written request to any and all information for safety performance history records on both of us and when they have that ready we will have to come in person to Chattanooga, TN in 30 days to pick up what information they gathered on us during this "3 day interview". You have no idea how many times we were told during the 2 1/2 days we there that this was a job interview and we were not guaranteed a job.
How can a company put any comments on you through DAC when you were told you were NEVER employed by them?
Unless you are a saint I would not advise anyone to contact US Xpress about a driving job!
I guess we will have to contact DAC about this if and I'm sure it will be on there and dispute this.
