Vacationmoments.com - Ramada ripoff phone scam in Canada Ontario March 19th Ft. Lauderdale Florida
This evening I had someone call me to do a 'survey' with me about my last vacation. She asked questions about where I had been but in a very general way, and pretty much glossed over or skipped past that part to "how much did the trip cost" and "did you pay for your trip with a credit card?" at which point I started to get suspicious, so I told her I wasn't sure because my Mom had paid for it.
There was silence for a moment and then she asked "You are over 21 right" which I confirmed, and then she asked "well what credit card would you have used?" so, still kind of thinking "well I could win a trip" I said, "probably a visa". And then she started in asking for my address, so I declined, and she asked if she could read it back to me so she obviously found me in the phone book or from one of the other companies that sells addresses.
I was at this point pretty sure it was all a scam, especially when she then very quickly said "If you are selected someone will contact you by email in 24 hours" (I gave them my 'throwaway' email address just so I could see what the scam was and warn all my local friends!) and then she hung up quick.
While there was no immediate sales push like those in other ripoff reports... I just wanted to let people know that this scam is still running. The trip is now valued at $3,900 according to the person on the phone, which is a VERY high number in my mind unless they have started including airfare for us Canadians. So, to my fellow Canadians, be wary of scams, if it sounds too good to be true IT IS.
