I've had Viridian for a while.  The rates seemed to be reasonable.  Then, suddenly this year without any warning or notification, my rates went from $0.90 per kilowatt to $0.15 per kilowatt.  Viridien did this during the extrememly cold weather.  So first my bill went from about $250 per month up to almost $700.  Then in January it hit $1,000.  The February bill was $978.  I called my heating and cooling company after I got the $1,000 bill.  They said I could get my electicity for about 7 or 8 cents per kilowatt and I was totally being ripped off.

They also said that other customers had also called thinking their heters were broken.  I didn't think it was legal for rates to shoot up like that without any notice or warning.  I am writing to the company, but based on the other reports here, I don't expect any satisfaction so will take it to the MD Public Service Commission.  However, I am more than prepared to take this to the media or join a class acdtion suit against this company.  I absolutely did not receive any notice of a rate increase.

I am a representative in Illinois and we have hundreds of customers that were never given a renewal notice and have been over charged in some cases thousands of dollars. We have contacted Viridian hundreds of times (documented by emails) over the last 90 days and they still are not giving any of these consumers an answer as to why they were not notfied that their rates were going up, in some cases from .0499 to .1299. When you call Viridian if you can get through after waiting on hold for asometimes up to 45 minutes they act as if nothing wrong has happened. I would like to start a Class Action lawsuit but I am not sure how to go about it. Most of my customers are elderly and on fixed incomes and I need to help them. I have a customer due $2000 in refunds and yesterday when he called they tried to buy him off with a $100 gift card. I hope someone who reads this can give me some guideance as what to do, or if anyone wants to confront/sue/go to media I am all for it. This company who's parent company is Crius Energy has millions and millions of dollars but cant seem to fix an issue they know went bad. Thanks.
