Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We recently found it to be better decision financially to switch to Time Warner. We are coordinating more than one service and were scheduled for installation on December 14th. When I called Vonage, they tried to keep us on the phone as long as possible. Last month they said their best rate for me was $14.95 and only offered that after I said we might inquire with Time Warner because we already had other services with them. When I initially called, we were happy with Vonage and were only switching because it was in our best interest. The representative then was magically ableto offer an even lower rate of $9.99 per month. When we declined, she said our billing cycle ended December 6th, and if we continued service even one day past that we would be charged for a full month. Our choice then was to pay a full month for basically 9 days or disconnect early on the 5th and go 9 days with no home phone and no 911. I lost my job on October 3rd and have been looking for another job unsuccessfully since then. Going without our home phone means we will lose our telephone number we have had for many years. All job resumes' previously sent will  longer have a valid phne number, and I have to put my job search on hold until we receive a new phone number. We have a mentally ill adult son, and this is the only contact number he has for us. We also have no way to contact him, and he will have no way to contact us, especally right here befoe Christmas. My husband's parents had the same problem of switcng from Vonage and getting charged a full month for partial services. They were able to dispute it with their credit card company successfully, but it is up to the individual credit card companies whether to issue a credit. Vonage is playing games by saying they are offering you the best rate but then magically coming up with a better rate if you really seem serious about leaving. Are they so desperate for money that the cannot prorate for services actually used and actually steal money for services not provided? What happened to honesty and good busins practices. Once the representative realized we were actully leaving Vonage, they kindly offered to disconnect us immediately so we could go without phone service and 911 even longer. Vonage corporate offices can be contacted directly at Vonage America, 23 Main St, Holmdel, NJ 07733, Phone: 732-528-2600.
