I think we can agree that the entity of Wal-Mart didn't intentionally screw you over. Maybe someone switched it up at Sony or maybe some yo-yo at Wal-Mart did it. Who knows? I can understand them being a bit suspicous being that the serial number on the box didn't match the unit; but you're right, they didn't have to make such an issue out of it. But then again, there are people out there that try the old switcheroo just to get new merchandise. Personally, I'd try to contact Sony. It's a longshot, but maybe if the switch happened there, they can help you out.

You shouldn't expect much from Corporate. Walmart could care less about you or your family. All they care about is ripping you off. They've been ripping off Americans for years. Stay out of Walmart. They don't have the lowest price and their business model is criminal.

I would contact an attorney if your complaint is legitimate. I have seen his happen with other things besides electronics at Walmart. Once I bought a $40 heating pad (so I thought). When I got home, I found their $9.95 model was actually in the package. They don't always check to see if what you bring back is actually what's in the box. However, anytime I have taken back an electronic device where they record the serial number, they have checked to make sure the serial number on the box, the receipt, and the product all match, for the very reason to make sure you didn't buy a new one and brought back an old one in it's place. It is always possible one of their clerks didn't bother to do this checking in your case and someone did indeed return a broken one. I had this happen with a printer ribbon once also. I bought what I thought was a new one, and got home and found out it was empty. In this case, the box was open, so I never ever buy anything from Walmart where the package was opened. I would think if you have the receipt with the serial number on it and it matches the unit that was in the box, they don't have a leg to stand on, because they do print the serial number on the receipt as well.
