The EEOC needs to go to hell. And here's why:
If you follow the rules and have a very diverse employee field, and it comes down to promoting the people who deserve it, it's about talent over skin color, but the EEOC would like to say that it's about skin color over talent.
If it were your company. Your livelyhood. You'd promote who deserved it. It wouldn't matter what their skin color is. Walgreens is doing just fine, so they must be promoting the right people. You don't become a mega player in any retail outlet when your company is falling apart at the seems.
This is one story. No company is perfect. As far as the EEOC, maybe if Walgreens sent a letter to our "First Black President" and threatened to close down all of its doors and only do business in Canada, Europe or anywhere other than the United States because of this ruling, maybe that would actually do some good. I'd close my business before any G*D Damned government told me who I could or couldn't hire. That is a bunch of BS.

Paul, I totally agree with you. And yes, more companies do want to know what about this. But even taking the tape recorder in, Walgreens would still promote these people. To Marikay4 1 I can not understand anything that you said! 2 SO you have 2 African-American Employees at your Walgreens. Big Deal! Tell me how many Hispanics, Latinos, African-Americans are in your town that work at all of the Walgreens there, that will tell you if Walgreen's is following the rules 3 If you have religious beliefs that dictate that you can not accept the use of abortion items then don't work in a pharmacy (and toss out all the hangers). People forget that this intire country isnt made up of all Christians/Catholics/insert religion against said pill. HUH? I think most if not religions are against killing and murder. Hey, all of the Walgreens are hooked up by satellite. So, if Walgreens A is not going to fill you meds, Walgreens B or CVS or Insert Pharmacy Here will 4 The Pharmacists went to school and got degrees in their respected field. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO FILL A PRESCRIPTION ON ANY GROUNDS. IT IS UP TO THE COMPANY TO FIND SOMEONE OR SOMEWHERE THAT WILL FILL YOUR PRESCRIPTION. See Point 3 and there is MORAL CLAUSE IN THE LAW! 5 You say that you see only 1 or 2 that are true rip-offs and this is not ONE OF THEM. EXCUSE ME! Anytime a company does not provide good customer service, THAT IS A RIP-OFF! ANYTIME SOMEONE COMPLAINS TO CORPORATE AND CORPORATE DOES NOTHING THAT IS A RIP-OFF. CORPORATE PROMOTING BAD PEOPLE, FIRING GOOD PEOPLE, PROTECTING $100K WORTH OF COSMETICS, PROMOTING THE GAY GAMES, FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST A TOWN, ALL OF THAT IS A RIP-OFF. All of the reports filed against Walgreens ARE RIP-OFFS. NOT 1, NOT 2, ALL! You say that Walgreens does not deserve to be treated negatively. Because of how the company treats their customers and employees, IT DESERVES this treatment. And because of that treatment, combined with the lowest share price at $32 dollars, losing $35 million because of defrauding the Federal Government; YOU, JEFF REIN, DAVID BREUNNER, Deerfield, and every single person that loves Walgreens Deserve the TREATMENT. So, keep defending the indefensible! Because the reasonable customer will start shopping CVS and Wal-mart CORRECTION, THEY ALREADY HAVE BECAUSE THE SALES AT WALGREENS HAVE SLOWED DOWN BIG!

First, To Paul! AMEN BROTHER! And I will agree that most companies want to know about what is going on in there stores and will try to do the right thing. At least you nailed it on the head. But I would say even if you tape record the people, Walgreens will say that YOU ARE A LIAR and still promote them. To MARIKAY4 1) Learn how to spell correctly and frame an argument! I read your post and it is so jumble and hard to understand that your argument has NO VALUE! 2) Your store has 1 minority has a manager and 1 as a head pharmacist. WOW! How about your city or the district? That is the best way to tell if Walgreens if following the EEOC mandate. 3) If you have religious beliefs that dictate that you can not accept the use of abortion items then don't work in a pharmacy (and toss out all the hanger HUH?! There is more than 1 Walgreens, so some other store will have the medication. All of the Walgreens are hooked up to the internet, so if Walgreens A is not going to fill it, WALGREENS B or CVS would 4) THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON CHRISTIAN VALUES. MOST RELIGIONS I BELIEVE THAT ABORTION IS WRONG AND KILLING IS WRONG. (Where life begins debate, I am not going to touch that) WHAT I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF ARE THE ATHESITS, GAYS AND POLITICALLY CORRECT CROWD SHOVING THEIR AGENDA DOWN MY THROAT AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE. AND YET, TELL THOSE THAT IT IS NOT RIGHT TO PRAY AT GRADUATION, TRY TO TAKE RELIGION OUT OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS! Those pharmacists have a right to earn a living and if they object to fill a med on moral grounds, THEY CAN. THEY WENT TO SCHOOL, THEY GOT THEIR DEGREE, AND IF IT'S AGAINST THEIR VALUES, THEY CAN REFUSE. IT is up to WALGREENS to either find someone who can OR find another store that WILL (SEE POINT 3) Maybe you should read the law because there is a moral clause. 5) BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A RIP-OFF! COMPANY CONDUCT OF THE EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS IS A RIP-OFF! People want good customer service and want that every single time they enter into a store. When they have bad customer service, they will try to get it solved. IT IS WHEN MANAGERS AND CORPORATE DO NOT CARE THAT IT IS A RIP-OFF. When BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT SOLVED THAT IS A RIP-OFF! One or two being a rip-off? THAT IS A JOKE! EVERY SINGLE POST HAS BEEN ABOUT A RIP-OFF. The entire company is being treated NEGATIVELY, BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT; Plus, shelling out another $35 Million for overcharge Medicare, Share price below $32, a share-holder lawsuit. This all equals WALGREENS being a bad company and it all falls on the head of Jeff Rein and David BREUNNER! So, keep making statements that people do not understand, defend an immoral company that promote Bad Employees, shell out more money to settle lawsuits. Because if you conduct your business that you only care about the money, and NOT the consumer or the Employee, YOU WILL BE TREATED NEGATIVELY.

I can't believe how badly people flame this Company. Bad Sh*t happens. I've had a few employees at a random Walgreens that was questionable. I even had one time I thought something was a coupon and it wasnt and they had to void it out and it was emberassing but I didn't go screaming and yelling about vows to not go into a store ever again like you are some special snowflake they can't live without and will beg you pretty please to shop there again... Honestly. How self-involved are we? Secondly,We have two very lovely African American employees at my Walgreens. One is the Manager and the other is the head of the Pharmacy. Icnore the driping sarcasim why I say, it sure looks like it to me that WalGreens is racist and wont promote African American employees. Also. The After Morning Pill thing. I certainly don't want a Pharmacist who would tell me I cant have what ever it is I need and choose to have medically because she felt it was wrong. I'd be very upset. I came in for my medications, not to be converted to your religion. So far I've read several posts about walgreens and only one or two maybe really belong on this website for rip offs. The rest have been bad customer service issues at best. I'm even admit to having experianced a rude person in various walgreens from time to time and I'm not even saying some people don't have reason to be up set but this is all far from ripoffs. My Wal-Greens has some fantastic friendly helpful people working there and they certainly don't deserve being treated negatively

This person should have been fired on the spot. If I had been a higher up of this person, she would have been summarily escorted immediately. While coupons dont necessarily have to be honored, her attitude proves she should not be selling any product to the public. Plus most corporates will want to know about this as it directly impacts the stores capability to sell product and stay in business. Only if the coworkers lie about this person (employee) would she be promoted. This is why, in the case of Walmart, I always go in with a tape recorder. I record much of my retail communications, and erase them as soon as I get home, if nothing bad happened. Btw, its about 50% that I find are beligerent enough to justify taping. And I usually get every single one of these that I tape fired. fortunately its easy, as the recording is digital.

I like Robert's post. He was dead on with the reply. Let me add the following (despite the issue being over a year old): The original post did not mention if the coupon was an in-ad or a manufacturers... 1) Every so often, a valid in-ad coupon item is not linked to a sale price, usually from an oversight on a bonus size or value pack. A price-modify can rectify that situation and a manager's key is not needed (at least not in my district). 2) If the manufacturer coupon is expired or the expiration date is cut off from the coupon, the coupon is considered void and we don't get credit from the issuer. If the coupon isn't programmed in our system (happens rarely), there is a "mfr coupon" button on the register so that the coupon amount can be manually entered, again without manager approval.

Here is what Robertmoray stated "Firstly, to Daniel, I understand your frustration regarding your termination, but the accusations you make against Walgreens refusing promotions on the grounds of color towards african-americans is false. For your information, the EEOC and Walgreens made a settlement on the issue, and Walgreens, though it claimed it did not doing anything wrong, is taking even more effort to be sure everything is being done fairly. Once again, I understand your frustration with Walgreens, but I don't think it is mature to nay-say everyone's rebuttals when they are in fact valid and productive in trying to solve the problem." #1 - You do not understand my FRUSTRATION OF WALGREENS TERMINATING ME! Walgreens TRIED TO SHUT ME UP ON THEIR WRONGDOING BECAUSE OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS FALLING ON DEAF EARS, BECAUSE I DECIDE TO TELL THE TRUTH and defend the customers. NUMBER TWO - IF YOU HAVE TO PAY $20 MILLION TO SETTLE A EEOC SUIT, IT MEANS THAT YOU DID SOMETHING WRONG AND IF IT TOOK AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MANAGER WRITING TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY, SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG and the accusation FAIRLY ACCURATE! (AND YES, I DID RESEARCH ON THE STORY, LOOK IT UP!) NUMBER THREE - THE PROBLEM IS WALGREEN'S CONDUCT OF CUSTOMERS ANY TIME THEY TRY TO DO SOMETHING RIGHT, LIKE TRYING TO USE A COUPON TO SAVE SOME MONEY, OR TRYING TO GET THE DOG FOOD THEY BUY, OR PHOTO LAB SPEICALIST BELITTLING CUSTOMER AND DAMAGING THEIR PICTURES AND YET, YOU SIT SLIENT ON OTHER THINGS THAT I POINTED OUT (LYNN REED PROMOTION/4 Pharamacy Person from Illinois, various misconducted of firing others) , BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT IT IS TRUE. You are defending the indefenseable. If I ran Walgreens, there would be a BIG HOUSE-CLEANING. Starting with Board of Directors, GONE. VP OF HR, He would be on the street in a heartbeat. Employee Relations, everyone fired. NEW CEO, NEW BOARD of DIRECTORS and A NEW VP OF HR. Then Some District and Store Manager will be fired too, and then some employees gone. And YOU SIR, Would be one of them! And I am not inmature either. It is you and the company that is being SO INMATURE!

Daniel and Samantha, Firstly, to Daniel, I understand your frustration regarding your termination, but the accusations you make against Walgreens refusing promotions on the grounds of color towards african-americans is false. For your information, the EEOC and Walgreens made a settlement on the issue, and Walgreens, though it claimed it did not doing anything wrong, is taking even more effort to be sure everything is being done fairly. Once again, I understand your frustration with Walgreens, but I don't think it is mature to nay-say everyone's rebuttals when they are in fact valid and productive in trying to solve the problem. Samatha, I am very sorry for the way you were treated by Walgreens management. This treatment, I feel, is not an accurate representation of a Walgreens manager. Oftentimes, managers are faced with a lot of problems regarding coupons, rainchecks, manufacturer coupons, etc. Oftentimes, though they try their best to assess the problems, they can become stressed and yell at customers, which is not the correct thing to do in any scenario, and is not something that Walgreen Co. endorses or expects any employee to do. As for the coupon, I am assuming you are talking about a coupon taken from the weekly circular. In that case, there may be a few reasons why your coupon did not register correctly: 1. NO ITEM ENTERED FOR COUPON: This is a common register error that occurs because, many times, coupons can be very specific as to what is on sale. I am not trying to accuse you of not reading carefully, but I have had many coupons refused by my register due to a wrong package size, quantity, or volume. In this case, the employee or responsible management should either have issued a raincheck if not in stock or helped you pick out the correct sale item. 2. COUPON NOT ON FILE CANNOT ADD: Another common error may register, though it is not likely, if the store has not activated the coupons. While the company does its best on the corporate to region to district to store system to communicate the upcoming price and ad changes, a problem may have occurred which may have prevented the coupon from being registered and recognized by the register. Again, the machine can only recognize what the human being running the server tells it to recognize. In this case, the employee checking you out should ask a manager for permission to modify the price to the sale price, which as long as the sale price is correct should be ok. 3. OFFLINE: The most unlikely scenario was that one or more of the registers was not functioning correctly and as a result, the management manually reset the system, causing the registers to go offline. If this was so, for fifteen minutes until the reset completes, the registers will not know what anything costs, what is on sale, or what coupons are accepted. Any and all items must be entered manually by a manager or employee verifying the price using an independent scanning device. In this case, the employee should have verified the ad price and input the price into the system. 4. MFG Coupon rules: If I was wrong and the coupons were manufacturer coupons, we are only allowed to authorize 1 MFG coupon per item. This is because we receive direct compensation from the company issuing the coupon as long as we can prove we sold all the items we are using the coupons for. If you were to use two coupons on one item, the manufacturer would not reimburse us, and thus our registers will not authorize that. Again, in terms of employee response, the Manager was completely out of line in handling your problems. No one deserves to be humiliated to that extent, especially in a business where we pride ourselves in excellent customer service and welcome any customer that walks in the door. My recommendation, despite the rebuttal debate that took place following your post, would be either to contact Corporate Loss Prevention at 1-800-666-5677 or to contact the company using the following method. (I have taken care to locate the exact contact information regarding your store: 8020 Denton Highway, Watauga, TX 76148 store 6264.) Go to the following link: http://www.walgreens.com/contactus/default.jsp?storenumber=6264 This link will allow you to send feedback specific to that store. I strongly advise using this method because it will forward the email directly to some closer to the district so that the problem can be more easily solved. I would also, if possible, ask to speak to either the store manager or the district manager if you can get his or her name and phone number. Once again, I apologize for how you were treated, and for any resulting problems it may have caused. Best Regards, Walgreens Employee Walgreen Co. Inc. Massachusetts District 220

Im not saying your claim is false, but the people responding to you are people who in other negative Wal-Greens posts are campaigning against Wal-Greens for some idiotic reason. I work at the front register at Wal-Greens. If our register will not take the coupon, there is nothing we can do about it. If our particular store has something clearanced, and someone comes up with another coupon to make it even cheaper than it arleady is, we can not accept it, and our register will not accept it. Anything that will allow an items to go under $1.00, the register will not accept. And i must agree with the manager, it does get a bit annoying when a customer comes up with a MILLION freaking coupons on every single item in their cart, and when their cart is also full, it makes our lines extremely long and is incredibly rediculous. People do not realize that Wal-Greens is a convenience store (besides the pharmacy part). We are not Wal-Mart! When people come up with a full cart of items piled up, and they have coupons on every single one, how would that make you feel checking someone like that every single day? I can understand the manager's stress 100%. Each store has their own disgression on how they handle deals and coupons. If the store manager is the one who rung you up, and she refused them, then you have to leave it at that. You must file a complaint with corporate on that person. No, unlike what the Anti-Walgreens people say, they will not get a promotion. I also do not believe you are giving every piece of information? Did she say that deal expired a few days ago? Was it an expired Manufacture coupon? You need to provide more information on this topic and less ranting of Wal-Greens. You will never get a accurate explanation of WHY if you do not provide enough information.

This has been the way Walgreens have been treating it's customers since 2002 and I will tell you what will happen to the store manager that yelled at you. That store manager will get a raise and he will get promoted either to a 24-hour store or a better 24-hour store or run a district. My Suggestion is you go to the media and you tell them to look on this great web site about the way WALGREENS have treated their customers and employees. I was a great Photo Lab Speicalist, the manager treated me like dirt and the district manager did not want to listen to me. I decided to speak out, I got fired. The manager that treated employees like dirt and used racial slurs against customers, GOT PROMOTED! THat is Walgreens Operation - Treat People Bad, Get Promoted. Treat People Good, Get Treated like dirt. Start posting banners, send e-mail. Do something! This company says the Pharmacy Americans Trust, but what has been happening lately, I will give that title to someone else. Tell people to start shopping Wal-Mart, CVS anything but Walgreens. It is your money and money talks. That is Walgreens is concerned about just money!
