My wife went to Walmart for new glasses.  We presented them with our vision coverage insurance card and were informed that the coverage would only pay for frames in the amount of $98.  We paid the remainder of the cost of the glasses in the amount of $329, which included charges for 2 lenses at $145 apiece.  Also included in the cost was $51 for an eye exam, which our health coverage would have paid except the Walmart technician was not authorized by BC/BS.    A few weeks later we received the notice from our vision insurance coverage company and Walmart had billed them $386, including 1 lens at $145.  We called Walmart to ask for an explanation of the billing and were told only that it was standard billing procedures and that the vision company may not pay all of it.     I called the vision company and they said that it would all be paid and when I explained the duplication in billings the representative stated that it was a contractual agreement.  Since this made the final cost of 1 pair of glasses $725 I told the vision company representative that I feel obligated to cancel my coverage so as to save them and myself a substantial amount of money.   Since I also was in need of new glasses and I was adverse to paying such an insane amount for standard glasses (not designer), I instead went to a national chain and obtained 2 pair of bifocal glasses including eye exam for $210.   Walmart needs to learn the old adage that you can sheer a sheep many times, but you can skin it only once.  Don't trust them with your vision insurance.
