I contracted with Zeigler livestock transport in Britt Iowa to haul a mare to Tularosa NM in early Feb 2010, they were 4 days late picking her up, kept her on the trailer for 3 days without unloading her, poor feed and little water. The quoted price was $640.00, when I got the contract they wrote in $680.00, I paid it as it was too late to find another hauler as this mare was only a couple of weeks away from foaling. The mare was picked up in Iowa on Sunday Feb. 28th and delivered the evening of March 3rd. He was abusive to the mare in unloading, shouting profanity, after she was unloaded he wanted to clean out 3 days of manure in my front yard and I asked him not to, He then started yelling more profanity and said he was going to charge me $100.00 more, I asked him to leave and he started threatening me, I had to call 911 and have the Sheriff come to take care of the situation, they did and He has since attempted to charge more money on my credit card. I would highly recommend Anyone using this service to investigate it before contracting with this company, which I failed to do. In summation in my view this company is very unprofessional, dishonest and should not be in the business of transporting horses.

A simple 'google' search on this hauler would have prevented your problem from occuring. This might be the ONLY hauler with more 'rip off reports', BBB unsatisfactory ratings, and negative forum discussions about them than advertisements come up when you do a simple search. And they do advertise theheck out of thier services, so that's quite an accomplishment.

We havehad very littlepersonal experience with this hauler/horse trader, but each year for the past several years we do have at least2 or 3clientstell us their own horror stories. These stories rangefrom 'rank' horses sold as kid broke, to horses being beaten to get to load,to the most common complaint -verbal abuse, foul language, and/or unrelenting telephone/email harrassment,if a client has the nerve to create the slightest inconvenience.Once again, no personal experience with them.....however, the stories are too similar, and too frequent, toignore.

While there are many other inexpensive haulers out there that do an excellent job, keep in mind - sometimes you DO get what you pay for.

WE have used Al Zeigler, who owns Zeigler Livestock, for the last 8 years, and have had no problems whatsoever.  He has one of the best setups in his trailers, with his slants that go all the way to the floor and ceiling, which keeps your horse from contact with other horses, which we definitely like.

They are fed and watered, did you ever stop to think maybe the horse had drank her water before she arrived, and why would you have a mare in foal on a trailer, due to foal in 2 weeks delivered that far??  That makes no sense.

I have had other transports here, and never have liked any like Al Zeigler, and Rebecca, they are both pros.  Our horses we ship with him, to our clients, and ones we purchase, never have had any problems and have arrived in A 1 shape.  We had one come from Florida to us in Iowa, and that horse came 100%.  They all have.

As for the shavings being cleaned out, most shippers have that right to do that, you just have them put them in a place where you want them, then dispose of them, could you imagine if every shipper had to leave and find a place to rebed.  HE does bed really thick too with his shavings, making the horses comfortable and cushioned on their legs along with the matting.

When a horse is trained to get off a trailer a certain way, which some horses only back off, let the shipper do his job, that is what you paid him for.  I am sure you probably threw some profanity his way too, or you just nicely stood there?

Weather, especially snow and thunderstorms, transporters have to stop at times and wait it out, would you like your horse hurt?  They are looking out for you.  You can take your own insurance out too, I have done that.  I have had gorgeous air ride rigs come in our place and treat the horses like crap, wasn't my choice, it was the buyers choice, then I have to call them and tell them how my horses left here.

There is always going to be someone not get along with some transporter, there are tons of shippers I have not liked, but I have not bad mouthed them as you have.  You should have just let Al do his job, when the horse arrives it arrives, you try being a transporter, and see how many people out there realize just how hard of a job this is. There are a lot of unfriendly people out there and friendly both.

I will continue to use Zeiglers Livestock, and put our trust in them, and I know a lot more people that will also.  The time frame, just cannot be helped, they have to log mileage too.  Plus as I mentioned weather related.  You should just be thankful that mare did not foal on the trailer, being so close.

Try being more understanding, and realize the hard work it is to do this, and the grief, all of the shippers take.  Zeiglers have a lot of people that use him and will continue too. He is a professional and does a great job.

Life is just too short to be like this, let the transporters do their job.  You signed a contract, and they have that for a reason.  Just take some time and think about it. Read your contract and give them a break and don't be so nasty, no need for this.

3rd  all our files including the eamil we send him for th eprice states $680.00 if he did not like the price he did not have to book with us he could of found another transport company . It was his choice to sign the contract.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

4 th  The mare was NOT due in a few weeks the people who we pick up  & the new owner  told us the mare was due any day I told them it was not the best thing to have this mare transported when she was due this close but they wanted to have her transported

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5th

We had a 4 hr delay in MO trying to load another horse the next day  and again we called the drop off ( have phone records) to let them know where we were at and wat was happing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6th

When we went to unload mare she would not come out of the trailer  side door so I wanted to unload the horse that I had on so we could take her out the rear of the trailer . At first he did not want me to unload any other horses on his place. I sat and watched him pull on the mare & his help get after her with a stick . The mare still would not come off so I told him we would have to unload the other horse & back her off the trailer she would not lead off. He blew up and told me she was his $#@% horse and that he would get her off. I unloaded the other horse & they still tried to lead her off the trailer & started to hit her again and she hit her head a few times on the trailer roof. I  told him many many times to turn the mare around and back her off he kept telling me to shut the $#@$  up and she was his horse and was going to do what he wated her to . I got in the trailer told everyone to get out of the trailer and give me the mare I tool the lead rope & turned her around and she backed off like a pro . This made him very mad he got in my face and was yelling at me to get the %$#@ off his place . I told him he needed to sign for the horse and I needed a place to clean her stall. (as the contrat states) he told me that was not going to happen. I  told him that is is a $100.00 fee  if he did not have a place for me to clean out. He  started poking me in the chest and asked me what I did not understand and he was going to teach me a lesson if I did not leave and as I got in the truck he said not to go to far the law was coming and wated to talk to me. I pulled out the drive and waited for them to come.  I told them what the deal was and they asked if I wanted to press charges I said no so they told me leave.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

7th

The stall did not have 3 days of shavings in. The people who we droped off the night before help me clean the trail out and  helped me put new shavings in and reload . This was only 8 hrs from dropping this mare off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

8th

The horse was booked to transport in a stall & a half and we put her in a big box stall at no extra charge due to if she would of had the colt she would of had room to lay down.
