I was a long standing customer and have given this company the benefit of doubt when I was unsure in the past with disputes. About two months ago I brought my car into All Pro with a whining/rattling sound coming from under the hood. I relayed to the office my thoughts as to the problem. I said it sounded like the tensioner or power steering pump going bad. I said the steering was fine but I was afraid it was a bearing or something that was giving me a warning. I didn't want to break down along the highway as I travel a lot. I got a call telling me the power steering pump would cost x amount of dollars installed. I gave him the go ahead. When I went to pick up the Tahoe it was making the same noise. The mechanic told me the alternator was whining and would probably go out next. I told him it was the same noise I put it in for. He said Dominic told him to replace the power steering pump. I did not make them replace the pump and put the old one back on. (I should have). Instead I went down to Auto Zone and picked up a new one that Dominic said would be replaced for free, it wasn't). Today my power steering quits. I asked All Pro to take a look at the truck as the pump was still under warranty. Mike told me to leave it for an hour and he will look at it. (Dominic was no longer employed there). I called up and he told me the steering box was bad and it ruined the power steering pump. He said I needed to replace both. I told him it just started giving me a hard time and I don't under stand how the pump is bad. I explained the pump started working again before I arrived at the shop. It acted as though it had lost it's prime like a pool pump does when the water gets low. Mike said both were bad. He went on to say his mechanic said the pump was whining and was load. I said "It needs fluid". I would not let him quote the labor for the pump as I did not believe him or the mechanic. I asked him if he was the same mechanic that replaced my power steering pump last time when it was fine and the alternator was making the noise.it wold cost over $600 dollars to repair the steering box and he would try to warranty the pump but not the labor. He told me I should thank him for this. I asked him where the steering box was leaking and he said " I'm not sure, there is fluid all over the bottom of the box area" I asked him how he knew I needed a box and not a hose repair? He said his mechanics were the best and that was what they recommended. I told him I would put some fluid in and see how quickly it leaks out this weekend. I would get back to him Monday. When my arrived to pick it up he told her it would cost $110.00. He did not even put fluid in! When he refused to budge, I asked to speak to a District manager. He called someone and fabricated what had happen from start to finish. I kept asking to let me speak to the manager and he ignored me. He refused to give me my car unless I paid him the money. I demanded my car and he came within 1 inch of my face in a very aggressive manor and told me "Get out of my shop" "leave now" I asked him to hit me so I could get some personal satisfaction and beat his a*s. I refused to pay and told him he will deal with my attorney in the morning. I got home and wrote this report. Tomorrow I will let my daughter pick up her Tahoe and I will take it to the region manager Monday Morning.

I just read Pete's response to my report and find it quite the stretch. First let me address the false statements made. I was not contacted by any management during this ordeal. They refused to speak with me. They acted like cowards. My "north an Personality" was simply outrage. I never replaced the power steering pump to date. All Pro's mechanic was full of crap. The steering box did leak out the fluid and it did it 1 block from the shop. That would not have burned out the power steering pump. I was sold a bad pump and have been dealing with it ever since. I did replace the steering box as his mechanic was correct that it was SEEPING. The power steering pump that was placed on my Tahoe was a defective part to start with. I am not a mechanic and do not pretend to be one. I would not tell a mechanic to replace anything on a car. I would, however; ask him to focus his attention on a specific area of (possible origin) of a noise. I do expect him to diagnose and correct the problem, not replace a perfectly good pump with a defective one and then blame something else for the problem. I would expect the owner to replace the defective part installed by their mechanic and send it back to the manufacturer. To ask them to understand it should not cost the customer for their mistake is not too much to ask for. What I do know is I was the victim not All Pro! It's easy for Pete to write a rebuttal and say how sorry he was. The fact remains he nor anyone else from All Pro contacted me to redress this complaint. I call this customer satisfaction because the shop where the work was done is now out of business. I guess there were more dissatisfied customers than Pete would like to admit. I am glad no one else will experience this shops shoddy work. I can't believe they blame me for misdiagnosing my own car. What a team...rich

I suppose there are three sides to every story...ours, theirs, and the actual facts. We sincerely regret this occurence; no business likes to be associated with the phrase "rip off". But things do not happen in a vacuum; look hard enough and you can find that often there are other factors at work. Our records indicate the first problem mentioned by Mr. Madsen leaves out that he self-diagnosed his problem to avoid our charges for diagnosis. So he instructed us to replace a power steering pump he thought was responsible for a noise; it turned out to be something else and he incurrend unnecessary expense as a result. This was in January. In May he returns with a power steering leak and assumes it is the power steering pump. In order to determine this, our technician spends about an hour cleaning off all the power steering fluid blown all over the engine compartment, etc. and finds the steering gear box has a leak and has leaked all the fluid out. Unfortunately, this also caused the power steering pump to go bad since it has been run out of fluid. This is where All Pro is guilty of a rip off. But not of Mr. Madsen. We conspired against the supplier of the power steering pump and agreed to return the pump to the manufacturer "under warranty" simultaneously with replacing the leaking gearbox, even though it was not the fault of the pump it went bad, but the fact it was run low on fluid. Mr. Madsen either did not believe this, or expected everything for free, or something, but he refused the offer. Consequently, we billed him for the technicians time to clean and diagnose the problem...because it was not the fault of the part we replaced. Just as in the January repair; Mr Madsen balked at paying anything for diagnosis. It got very heated including threats of physical violence. Later in the evening we found a brick thrown through our window with comments written on it similar to remarks made by Mr. Madsen before he finally left. I have watched the tapes of this incident; our employee did not make any physical threats...he just had surgery that has incapacitated his right arm. Mr. Madsen has all kinds of quasi-law enforcement weaponry in it and has an agressive "northern personality". We absolutely hate loosing a customer in this fashion. On the other hand, customer service does not mean being a doormat, bowing to intimidation, nor doing something for nothing. To do over again, I would prefer my manager have just let the car go without charge but I suspect it became a "matter of principle" to both parties rather quickly. Like I said, there are usually three sides. On the other hand, if our tech was correct, Mr. Madsen still needs a gearbox and anybody else will also charge for the pump which we would "warranty" in the interest of goodwill. Seems we both bit our noses off to spite our face and no one wins. Stupid? Bad Business? Human nature? For our part I apologize.

I sent my daughter to pick up her Tahoe like I wrote yesterday. Mike refused to let her have it. It was registered to her and she tried to pay with her own credit card, he told her no. He wanted cash!. He went on to say I broke his store window last night and the police had a warrant out for my arrest for threating to SHOOT him and his mechanic!!! ALL LIES! My daughter and her boyfriend told them that was not my nature, and what he was saying was slander. My wife was shocked since she was present with me at the time of his tirade yesterday. (She was scared to death of the way he was acting toward her prior to my arrival. She thought he was trying to provoke an incident with her). I told my daughter to call the police and ask them to get her car out for her. The police came and told her even though they understood they could not make All Pro release the car unless she paid cash. Two hours later she brought cash to pick up the car and the power steering was never filled up. They charged $78.00 dollars to tell her it wasn't warranty and 17 dollars shop supplies plus tax which totaled 110.17 and didn't put any fluid in. The owner was present, so I asked her to put him on the phone with me and I would explain what has transpired to date. He refused to talk to me. This company is a sham run by crooks who will be dealt with through legal options. Please keep in mind I wrote this company up last night and made a few typos in it including the web address www.allproautorepair.com I will update with the legal options Monday. Please if you want to get a class action against these crooks, contact me.
