Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I went to an Amscot store to purchase a money order. After purchasing the m/o, I realized that i had made a mistake filling out the money order and had to ask the amscot employee if she could replace it for a new one. She said "no problem, we can give u a new one,
I just need your ID". Then she comes back to me with this form for me to fill out, supposely to update my records. Little did I know that Amscot was going to keep the money order money without any previous explanation or questions.  I do acknowlege i have a pending balance with Amscot that needs to be paid., that is not the discussion here. Amscot is supposed to disclose that if you have a pending balance with their institution, then you are not supposed to go there and buy money orders or do any other transacion money related at all because they will keep your money. This lady treated me like if I was a kid. Making me fill out forms, and lieying about the pursose of the forms.
Amscot employees acted like "Okay she is here, lets get her"...I think in this country we have rights. Even when you are about to be convicted for a crime or when u get arrested, deputies do have to tell you what your rights.
Amscot employees acted with me like if they were conducting a SECRET Mission in order to get me pay them by any means.  This has to stop. Amscot is a financial institution, yet not a bank. A money order has nothing to do with a balance due to them. When u go to a bank to make a deposit, u know they will deduct any negative amount u might owe, but this is not the case, PURCHASING A MONEY ORDER is way too different from making a deposit. I did not go to Amscot to make a deposit. They dont even know if this was mine own mone or somebody elses.  They HAVE to tell customers before they act. They need to DISCLOSE information. It is unlawful to lie in order to get somebody to pay. I even asked to lady to return the money order back to me, she said IT WAS TOO LATE.
all the personal problems that this has created for me is not even worth to mention (unless somebody wants to discuss this issue and have any means to help to prevent from this happening to somebody else again) becase what I am reporting the way they are conducting business. And should be penalized. Wish i could explain this situation better, but my english vocabulary is kind of limited since english is not my primary language.

Yes, you do sign a contract with Amscot and yes if you owe them money it is your obligation to pay them back. But let's think about this for a second, if you sign a contract with someone who you owe money to and you don't pay them back, do they have the right to steal money from you because you owed them money? No...In fact, what they need to do is take you to court and only then can you have the money garnished...Amscot is garnishing money from people without a judges order. I have been a victim of this situation. I have never ever done business with Amscot and when I started working and got my first paycheck, I had to use them to cash the check because my bank was closed for the day. When I went in there they took my entire pay check stating that I have an outstanding pay day loan...I have never in my life stepped foot into an Amscot. Turns out I was a victrim of identity theft and in this case, Amscot was the judge jury and executionar. I did ended up winning the case but that was too little too late and I will never step foot into another Amscot again. Terrible experience and they made complete fools out of themselves..

I don't agree with the OP I'm afraid.  You borrowed money and signed a contract to pay them back by a certain time and date.  You didn't pay them back (I presume) so you went there for other services and handed money through the window and are surprised that they took it to pay off (or towards) your original debt?  I can't imagine that you are surprised.

As for the advice that "if you owe them money, stay away from the place", how about pay back the money you borrowed?  If you don't have the means to repay the debt, don't take on the debt in the first place.  I mean I'm not trying to sound all high and mighty, but that's the logic behind it.

From time to time I use this very store you are referring to for payday loans, because I turn around and realize I've pushed my power bill off too long and they are going disconnect before I plan to get money next.  So it's worth it to me to pay the extra $20 or $30 to keep from inconvienencing my family and it's worth it.  I feel 95% certain I'll be able to come up with the money by the time they have requested it.  If I didn't, I'd come up with other arrangements.

But honestly, the best solution I have come up with, is to stay away from payday loans at all costs!

One another note, I agree with a previous poster that your english is better than many people I know where english IS their primary language.

I am sorry that Amscot collected the balance that you owed, but while I am no fan of Amscot they are within their rights to keep your money if you owe them. When you filled out that little card before taking out the cash advance in the first place you agreed in writing that they could do that.

The moral of this story is that you should never, ever, sign a legal contract without first reading it. They do not have to warn you that you owe them money. My advise to anyone who owes Amscot money is to just stay away from the place. After four years the statute of limitations expires and they can't win in court. I worked for those scumbags for several years, and I can tell you that if you wait 15 years they will still collect on you if you give them the chance. I've done it. Just stay away.
