Anthongy Fugett, Director, Marylance Central Collections Unit Maryland Insurance Lapse Scam Baltimore, Maryland
I am another victim of Mr. Fugett's Maryland insurance lapse scam. Here is how it works: Mr. Fugett's office receives names of people from the MVA who once lived in Maryland, but it was so long ago, there is no longer any record either at the MVA or most insurance companies which document the scam victims' car insurance coverage. Then a "bill" is sent from the office which fraudulently claims the victims' owe a large sum of money for "lapsed car insurance" that supposedly occured 10 or more years ago. The bill must be paid or proof must be offered that the car was in fact insured, which is usually impossible since so much time has passed.
I received a fraudulent bill for about $8,000 for a new car I purchased when I lived in Maryland over 10 years ago. The claim that my car was uninsured is ludicrous on the face of it, because I was required to show proof of insurance to register the new car, as well as to finance it. There was never a time when the car was uninsured. That car and all the records, however, are long gone. I am retaining the services of an attorney to fight this scam.
I must wonder how much has Mr. Fugett personally profited by ripping off former residents of Maryland.
