On June 29, I visited the Harbison Boulevard store in Columbia, SC. The employee helped me find items I liked, nothing complicated: a bed, mattress, box springs, and a chest of drawers. I had to leave the next day, but I called on the 30th and placed the order. He assured me, and it appeared on the contract that the furniture would be delivered August 1. I was told they would call to set up a delivery appointment.

I moved here on the 1st, and was told the furniture would not be here on time, and not given a specific delivery date. Their acting manager (the store is in ownership transition apparently) told me she did not know what would happen. I asked later to speak with their customer service manager, John, who when I told him what their salesman had told me, said that "customers tend to twist things around", essentially calling me a liar. I finally got in contact with the new store manager, Dennis, who told me that the furniture would arrive in-store on the 21st of August, and that I should get it shortly thereafter. He refunded my $105 delivery/fuel fee as a courtesy. It is now August 30, and I still have no furniture. I received a call from Dennis this past Wednesday, telling me that lawyers are going over papers, and that he really has no idea when my furniture will arrive.

I went Friday the 29th to a local furniture store and found everything I needed, deliverable in a week. I found out that several employees there worked at the Ashley store I originally purchased from, and that the managers their lie to employees, employees lie to each other, and everyone lies to the customers. Their manager at one point told me that damage to the Hurricane Katrina area and the part of China where the earthquake struck hit right where their production facilities were. There are people who ordered their furniture in April and still don't have it. To me, that means it could have been Christmas before I got my order. I slept in a sleeping bag for a week, and I've been on an air mattress ever since, which is not something designed to be used for weeks at a time. This store is an absolute embarrassment, and I wonder if there is a very real possibility of it facing numerous lawsuits as a result of their business practices.
