I wish I had read all of the complaints BEFORE I attended this school! At the end of 2008, a friend enrolled and begged me to "at least talk to the enrollment counselor".  I'm sorry to say that I did, and he convinced me to enroll, as well.  I got the stafford loan and pell grant and classes began. I was doing very well in the first block of classes, until the night my final was due. My Microsoft office went down and I was unable to turn in my final for one class, which caused me to fail with a big fat F! Because of this I was put on "academic probation" and did not receive any refund on my financial aid, it was kept by the school.  So be it.

In the next block of classes, I had an instructor who was just IMPOSSIBLE! The entire class was struggling, and there was one assignment in particular that I did EXACTLY as the syllabus states, and she failed me, as well as several others.  I complained to my "financial advisor" (when I could get him on the phone) and cried to him about this woman on more than one occassion.  He convinced me not to drop out, but nothing was ever done about the situation.I feel that they could have changed my instructor, took me out of the class, ANYTHING! Funny thing was, when I turned in my final, somehow, part of my final was missing when it made it to the instructor, which caused me to fail THAT class!

I begin to receive bills from the school, to which my "financial advisor" advised me that they were auto-generated, and to disregard them, of course yet again, I would not receive any disbursement from my financial aid.  Whatever. When I retook the same class with a different instructor, I turned in the same assignments as I had whn I failed, and I passed the class with a B-, and the instructor actually told me that I was "clearly a leader in the class".  Explain THAT ONE!!!

At this point my family was struggling and had rented a house that was in foreclosure, and ended up without jobs, due to the economy and ultimately became homeless, literally! We pitched tents at a campground, and that became HOME for 3 months.  Before this, I made repeated phone calls to both my financial advisor as well as my academic counselor, getting one of them on the phone was like pulling teeth! And neither of them returned a phone call either.  When I finally spoke to them and explained my situation, there was never any offer to suspend my classes for awhile, or anything!

My Mother came to the lake with us, to help me with gas to look for a job and gas, so that I could get to a computer to complete my classes that I was enrolled in.  After repeated emails and phone calls, AGAIN, I finally get my financial advisor on the phone, who once again tells me not to worry about my financial aid, that once again, any disbursement will "roll over to the next block of courses" and I will not get any refund.  This conversation took place in August, at the lake, on my Mother's cell phone.

I keep waiting and I am never enrolled in any more classes. I again sent repeated emails to both of these people and never got a response.  Finally, I get an email from the "academic counselor" that I have been disqualified, and have to "sit out" for 6 months. This was fine with me, considering all that I was going through.

Currently, I am in a home now and ready to return to school and I sent an email to my "financial advisor" yesterday, who proceeded to inform me that I owe the University 2010.00, and once it's paid in full they will be happy to re-enroll me! I reminded her of our conversation in August, to which she replied that "our last conversation was on July 10th" WRONG! I forwarded her an email correspondence between us that was on JULY 10TH, when I still had a home!

Yesterday, while we were communicating back and forth through email, she kept telling me to call her so we could discuss the matter.  I believe that she did not want to communicate by email, since I would then have a copy of the correspondence.

It seems that any record of our correspondence since July 10th have disappeared, just as I suspected.  This is precisely the reason I refused to call her on the phone. When I sent her the forward of our emails from July 10th, she suddenly had nothing else to say. I logged into the website and discovered that my "academic counselor" has changed, imagine that!

So now, after spending 3 months living in a tent, I am made aware that not only do I owe all of this money for student loans, I also owe the school 2 grand.  The University of Phoenix is a JOKE, and I would like to take part in any litigation brought against them.  I only want the student loans and the 2 grand they say I owe them to disappear.

I hope and pray that anyone who is considering attending this institution is wiser than I was and reads all of these posts, before enrolling in this poor excuse for "distance education".
