"We relied on our credit cards for survival." Really? You cannot survive without a credit card? Give me a break! Ashley explained it quite accurately. You have no right to a credit card. Things are not the same as they were in the "free and easy credit" climate of a few years ago. Lending institutions are learning from their mistakes and tightening their requirements. The fact that you had a credit card in '04 after having a bankruptcy in '02 is an excellent example of the stupid practices that are no longer considered financially prudent. "I asked, "Do you have the right to do this to me?" and he said, the B of A has the right to do anything they want. I said, but you are not the B of A." Yes, he is BofA as far as you are concerned. He is also correct. If you read your credit card agreement, you will see that the bank has the option to pretty much do anything they like. You, on the other hand, are pretty much at their mercy according to those terms and conditions. It's not what any reasonable person would consider to be a "fair" agreement, but it's what you sign up for when you get a credit card.

Yes you do have rights in this country. A right to a credit card is not one of them. The bank can choose whom they want as customers. They are the ones lending the money. You do not have a right to have a credit line with anyone. They DO have the right to choose who they want as a customer. It really sucks, but in this economy the banks are not taking any chances. Credit cards are getting canceled all over as the banks tighten down who they wish to extend credit too. Obama's fix for the credit industry is just making banks deny people credit. So no, there isn't anything you can do. You can complain, but the bank is under no legal obligation to care.
