Just curious, for any of those infractions, did he have to show up in court? As the employee for BeenVerified said, some counties group traffic infractions with criminal. In my county, if your traffic offense requires a court date, then the county clerks office website makes it appear as if it is a criminal offense. It takes very close inspection of the large amount of information the clerks office supplies to realize that it is not criminal. I can imagine a company serving background checks that encompass every county in the nation might overlook such a detail.
For the record, I'm not an employee, just a guy who watched a TV commerical a bit ago (and am trying to find a way to do a background check on myself without a credit card)

Personally, I cannot vouch as to whether or not BeenVerified is a legit website. I can say, however, that the person ranting about them in the comment I'm replying to doesn't know what he is talking about. Background checks are entirely possible and are used by corporations all the time. You do not need a drivers license number to do a background check on someone. Each county typically has a clerk of courts website which lists criminal and civil proceedings online. The point in using a company like Been Verified is so you don't have to check with every single county in the country for criminal and civil matters concerning a person.
Also, I'm not sure what the guy was going on about with Gold Notes, but I know that Gold Notes haven't been used in the States since 1930. Anyways, I think the previous poster is a mad man.
Don't take this to mean that Been Verified is legit, as I do not personally know, but there are legitimate background check companies/websites out there. Been Verified may or may not be one of those.

Stuart- With regards to your issue of a traffic violation ending up in a county's criminal file -- Here is the 411. While most counties file traffic violations through a completley seperate system then criminal offenses, some counties simply enter them all together. This is a problem that comes up occassionally and your situation sounds like exactly that. We compleltey empathize with your issue and are trying to create something that will recongnize and seperate traffic violations, but it is very difficult. As you know, as third party aggregators, we cannot change what is in a county file. However, we do recognize the issue of certain counties and their filing system and will continue to search for a solution.

My brother got his background checked by this company. They listed a few traffic tickets from 2004 as Criminal convictions. A failure to fasten seat belt violation and a failure to have his registration in his possession which are traffic citations. A fine and points on your DL. We looked the cases up on the municipal court and they were listed as traffic citations with the
denotation TR. Beenverified listed them as criminal convictions. The case number had been changed and the TR was left off along with the rest of the case number. This is not right. How can you justify changing a traffic ticket to a criminal conviction when it is a docket that is in traffic court. We will contact the authorites and see what they can tell us. We talked with
beenverified and they were not helpful. The only thing I can figure is that a traffic ticket is not worth much in the way of information. But a criminal case is probably worth more and that is probably why the case number and docket was changed.....to make it marketable. It is illegal alter court documents.

I was looking for information on this company and hit upon your report on this site. Your rant does not seem to have anything to do with the company in question.
The site states up front that they aggregate publicly available information. Of course, this is in finer print below the search window, so I imagine that many people don't read it, hence the number of complaints I see in the search results here.
Your tirade would be more appropriate to craigslist's rants and raves section than on this site.
