After shopping around for a hew dishwasher in Thanksgiving I decided to purchase my dishwasher at Bestbuy because they offered a Thanksgiving promotion for free installation on dishwashers $399 and up. When I went to the store I was told that I getting a free install as advertised and I only have to purchase the installation kit for $30 which I did. Best but installation company arrived to my house this morning and after spending 20 seconds in my house the guy already determined that I need to extra installation kit as my dishwasher is more then 6 fit away from the plumbing and that it will cost me additional $120 and before I had a chance to digest it I was told that I would have to replace my valve which will cost me another $120. I told them that I want to talk to the store and dispute those charges and to hold off on the install.
To make a long story short I spent couple of hours at the phone with Best buy store and best buy consumer relations. During all of these conversations best buy response was evolved from this is what we were told by the installation company (which is part of best buy), to calming that the promotion only included basic installation which doesn't covers my installation. My point to best buy was very simple let's assume that I will be using my own plumber to fix the supposed valve issue and let's only focus on the extended kit that I was told that I need. Let's also assume that I am willing to entertain replacing the kit that I bought with this so called extended kit, can you answer these simple questions:
1. What is the cost of this so called extended kit?
2. Why do I have to pay additional labor for this, can you point me to some disclaimer that this is not included with the install?
3. Can you show me that the promotion said that it's only include a basic install and what a basic install means?
Unfortunately best buy couldn't answer any of these questions and after running out of excuses told me that they can cancel my purchase if I wan't which I asked them to do. The problem that I have is that I now lost all the Thanksgiving pricings and I am stacked without any dishwasher unless I am willing to pay a premium.

Exactly what did Best Buy do wrong again? They don't manufactur appliances. The cord did not come from the factory for a reason. If that reason was an evil consumer manipulating upcharge, then calculate that into the overall cost of the appliance. Of course, you can always demand something for free and insist that the manufacturer should have included the cord in the box with the appliance. Oops...did we forget a little detail? Oh yeah...now the cost of that appliance just went up to include the cost of the power cord(s).
And how should the manufacturer know what style cord your application requires? What happens if the appliance is a replacement for an old one and the existing cord for the old appliance was just fine? Now the new power cord just gets tossed in a junk box and thrown in the basement, so it should still be free because you didn't need it? Not exactly. To eliminate costs all around, the cord is supplied separately by all retailers, not Best Buy.
If you felt $32.61 was too much for a cord, we are always free to hop in your car and burn gas and time driving around to see if you could find a cord for a few dollars less. If this is too difficult to understand or do, there is still hope that Obama will disregard the natural self correcting system and mandate free power cords to everyone. (That way he'll earn favor from those that don't understand that they'll pay the cost dearly elsewhere.)
Now for that nasty installer dude. He is not a Best Buy employee, but rather an independent contractor just trying to make a living. Is it safe to assume that the cheap socket wasn't just stuck to the wall with contact cement or 3m double-sided foam tape? How would you like to get a call for a job to install a dishwasher, then burn your day and your vehicle at some house where the pissed-off owner thinks you are a crooked theif and really shouldn't be getting a penny for your work?
So you want free cords/accessories and free installation. You don't feel you should have to pay for them at the time of purchase, or ever. You want people to produce a product and perform services for you....for nothing. Gosh golly gee. Wonder who you voted for.
