Bibby Financial Services Lottery Rip Off Don't Get Scammed..It almost happened to me!! Niagara Falls Ontario
I received a letter in the mail today saying that I had won a prize in the "official early bird release of the 2008 Consumers Sweepstakes Lottery". Enclosed in my letter is what appears to be an "official" check from Mellon Bank N.A., Pittsburg PA in the amount of $3800.00. It also informs me that I will be using part of this $3800 to pay "insurance processing fees" on my overall winnings of $38,000.00.
According to my letter, I am to call a 905 area code number and report my claim number. I had seen or heard something in the past regarding scams that are linked to a "905" area code. When I attempted to call this number, I initially heard a busy signal. I waited a few minutes and tried again to receive a recording stating that the number could no longer receive recorded messages.
This threw up a red flag. I've searched the internet for the company that is supposedly in charge of the lottery winnings and could not located anything similar. I've also tried to search the bank that the check is from and have not been able to locate any positive information.
I've searched through the different search engines and have not been able to locate any information that would link Bibby Financial Services and Mellon Bank, Pittsburg, PA to a lottery winning. I read an article on Ripoff Reports where someone else has received this same letter, from the same company for the exact same amount with the same instructions.
