My wife gave me a watch for my birthday in June 2014. I was able to choose the watch and purchased a Tissot on Amazon, sold by 3rd party seller Certified Watch Store. The watch was not horribly expensive, but expensive enough to be concerned when the following results occurred. The watch arrived and was not running. I thought the watch was great looking and just what I was interested in, and assumed that since it was an earlier year model that the battery needed to be replaced. A month later my family moved from Conn to Va and the watch was packed with the rest of my household goods. Several months later I unpacked that box and remembered the watch needed a battery so I took to my local jeweler who replaced it. The watch only ran for a matter of hours and quit. I contacted Amazon who referred me to the seller, CWS. Since it had been longer than 6 months since I had purchased the watch I was told that all I could do was to return the watch to CWS for repairs--replacements and/or refunds only good for 6 months. OK, I like the watch and had invested nearly $600 so wanted it fixed and had, per their instructions, send to them via certified shipping plus enclose a check for $30 to cover the return mailing to me--$50 more out of my pocket. Two months later the watch shows up and this time it ran for 4 hours before quitting again. I, again, contacted Amazon because I'm mad and have zero confidence in CWS, but was apologized to by their customer service (automatically copied on emails concerning their product). They said that they would send me a free shipping label and promised to do the repairs quickly and correctly this time--wondered how often they needed to make this statement. I sent the watch back, but reenergized my complaints to Amazon, stressing that I had now owned the watch for over 9 months, had sunk an extra $50 into it and had nothing to show for any of my time/money/effort. I told Amazon that I expected a new, working replacement or a refund. Amazon, to their great credit, came through and refunded me the purchase price, though it really wasn't their policy to do so. CWS stayed silent during this portion of the interchange and when I asked about getting reimbursed for my shipping expense, was told that I wasn't going to be reimbursed for that. I then contacted CWS and asked where the watch was. I received a tremendously sarcastic email back asking why they should send me a watch that had been refunded. I told them that Amazon had done the refund, not them and that neither had offered to reimburse my shipping charges, much less any other offer to help get the watch replaced. They stopped communicating with me at that point.
In summary, I paid for a watch I wanted and received it, not in working order. Subsequently, the watch never worked properly, CWS never did one thing to correct the situation and their attitude was horrible. I don't blame them for the watch not working in the first place, but I definitely blame them for me not having the watch I ordered and being out additional money for shipping/registration involved with a "repair" that wasn't. I am a retired USAF fighter pilot who relies on good timepieces daily. I will never hesitate to let consumers know how poorly CWS performed.
